JOB SUMMARY

The Critical Care Technician prepares the patient room for a new admit; assists with patient admit; obtains pertinent information from Patient Care Supervisor, charge nurse, or staff nurse; demonstrates knowledge of location and use of basic and special equipment; performs equipment and supply monitoring and set-up; assists with patient care; primes hemodynamic tubings for insertion and scheduled changes; demonstrates ability to set up sterile table for invasive procedures; performs testing procedures; stocks and monitors bedside cart, unit supply inventory, orders and restocks; tracks and checks for lost charges and reports non-compliance; performs Health Unit Coordinator functions; completes all required documentation; transports and transfers patients; performs post-mortem care; cleans designated equipment and participates in measuring and monitoring Quality Indicators and outcome. Patients cared for include: adolescents, adults and geriatric.

Primary Job Duties:

- Prepares patient room for a new admit according to standard operating procedure.

- Assists with patient admit according to standard operating procedure.

- Obtains pertinent information from Patient Care Supervisor, charge nurse, or staff nurse regarding activities related to "critical care technician" at the beginning of and throughout the shift.

- Demonstrates knowledge of the location and use of basic and special equipment and returns equipment to appropriate area following patient use, i.e., Sonosite, etc.

- Performs equipment and supply monitoring and set-up according to standard operating procedure.

- Assists with patient care following established patient care guidelines, i.e., patient hygiene, nutritional needs, ambulation, etc.

- Primes hemodynamic tubings for insertion and scheduled changes.

- Demonstrates ability to set up sterile table for invasive procedures and properly care for and assemble necessary instruments and supplies, and assists physician using sterile technique.

- Performs testing procedures according to Physician and nursing direction, in compliance with validations and according to standard operating procedure, i.e., ECG, bedside glucose testing, collection of non-blood specimens, etc.

- Stocks and monitors bedside cart, linen, unit supply inventory, orders and restocks.

- Tracks and checks for lost charges and reports non-compliance to appropriate personnel.

- Performs Health Unit Coordinator functions procedures.

- Completes all required documentation according to standard operating procedures.

- Transports/transfers patients within the unit, hospital or outside of the hospital, and coordinates this with appropriate personnel according to standard operating procedures.

- Performs post-mortem care according to standard operating procedures.

- Cleans designated equipment according to standard operating procedure.

- Demonstrates the ability to adjust own workload to meet fluctuation in patient census and acuity.

- Performs clerical duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED :

Required:

• High school diploma or the equivalent.

• Registration by the North Dakota State Department of Health as a Certified Nursing Assistant or

• Registration by North Dakota State Department of Health as a Nurse Aide or

• Those who have in the past never been licensed or certified as a Nurse Aide or Certified Nursing Assistant may obtain registration by the North Dakota State Department of Health within the first four (4) months of employment.

• Successful completion of the functional assessment.

Preferred:

• Previous experience in a health care setting.

• Knowledge of hospital and medical products.

• Knowledge of medical equipment.

• Computer/order entry experience.
