Job Summary

Prepare medications under the direction of a pharmacist. May measure, mix, count out, label, and record amounts and dosages of medications according to prescription orders. This individual will serve as a pharmacy advocate for patients on behalf of the clinicians prescribing medication throughout Sanford Clinics. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for facilitating prescription release from Sanford Clinics to Retail Pharmacies through Pharmacy Liaison Workflows. These duties will include direct contact with prescribers, patients, 3rd party payors, and outside pharmacies to promote medication services at Sanford. The successful candidate will also work directly with clinic staff, pharmacists and prescriber teams through live meetings and other written / verbal communication to provide and receive ongoing feedback related to Pharmacy Liaison workflows, benefits investigation and prior authorization. The individual in this position will also be involved with basic day-to-day therapy management workflow, including appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR). Day to day work in this area of pharmacy will be in collaboration with our team of pharmacists
In a retail/community pharmacy setting, the Pharmacy Technician duties consist of assisting pharmacists in compounding, preparing and dispensing medical prescriptions to the public after receiving information from customers or patients according to written/faxed prescriptions. Maintains proper storage and security conditions for drugs; ensures that equipment is functioning properly and assists in resolution of equipment maintenance and repair; controls inventory stock level and timeline to ensure adequate supplies. Assists with billing related functions. May assist with departmental quality assurance and other customer- or patient-focused services with oversight from supervisory staff; assists in the creation and maintenance of a safe working environment and conditions that adhere to state laws and regulations. Requires use of and proficiency in multiple computer programs.
The Pharmacy Technician position is located in different work environments and duties may vary based upon location or setting; also depending on location, there may be an overlap of retail/inpatient responsibilities.

Department Details

This position is Monday through Friday, 8 hour days. No weekends or holidays.

Qualifications

High School graduate or GED required. Must have completed any additional required education as specified in the state of practice in order to become a registered Pharmacy Technician.
Must maintain annual registration as a Pharmacy Technician through the State Board of Pharmacy in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state privileges as required by position. Must also complete the required hours of Pharmacy Technician continuing education.
South Dakota: Registration required within 30 days from the date of hire. Technicians registered with the South Dakota Board of Pharmacy after July 1, 2014 will be registered as a “technician-in-training” and will have two years to complete training education and national certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Failure to obtain National Certification within two years of registering as a “technician-in-training” will result in termination of position. Technicians registered with the South Dakota Board of Pharmacy after July 1, 2011 will be required to obtain their National Certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board by July 1, 2014. Failure to obtain National Certification will result in termination of position. Technicians registered with the South Dakota Board of Pharmacy before July 1, 2011 will be grandfathered in and not be required to be national certified through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
