Position Information

Position Description & Details: Invasive species ecologist/plant community analyst. The United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and NDSU have been collaboratively assessing USFWS native prairie areas in the Prairie Pothole Region for species composition of native species, and degree of invasion from non-native cool-season grasses. The position will be analyzing large botanical data sets collected by NDSU and the USFWS on plant community composition over the past 10 years.

Responsibilities: The responsibilities of this position includes compiling, comparing, and analyzing plant community data gathered utilizing different methods over the past 10 years. The person will have to develop appropriate models to analyze the varying data sets, which will give insight to degree of invasion by non-native invasive species, and management that maintains native species compositions. The person will be expected to communicate with the appropriate personnel at NDSU and the USFWS to obtain and analyze these data sets, and will be expected to develop reports, professional presentations, and relevant publications about the results.

Work Schedule: 40 hours/Week

Advertised Salary: Commiserate with experience

Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Plant Ecology, Plant Invasion Ecology, Botany, or related field. Understanding of plant ecology and plant community dynamics. Strong statistical skills. Strong problem solving abilities. Effective verbal and written communication.

Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with the Northern Great Plains. Strong understanding of plant invasion ecology. Experience developing statistical models with large plant species data sets. Record of peer-reviewed publication in relevant journals, as well as professional presentations.
