Position Information

Position Description & Details:

The Department of Public Health (DPH) at North Dakota State University invites applicants for a post-doctoral research associate for a full-time, two-year research project.

This person will primarily oversee a subcontracted project from the North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to study the epidemiology of COVID-19 in North Dakota. As part of the NDDoH's Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) for Infectious Diseases grant, NDSU and the University of North Dakota have partnered to study SARS-CoV-2 infection in a representative sample of North Dakota households. This will be accomplished by performing laboratory tests and surveys on household members to establish the point prevalence and the cumulative incidence of infection with SARS-CoV-2 over successive waves through 2021-2022. This project will also assess the utility and accuracy of serology testing to define the cumulative incidence of infection in a population through comparison with a measure of T-cell immunity and known prior PCR positivity. In addition, it will examine sociodemographic risk factors, exposures, and access to testing. The post-doctoral research associate will play a large role in coordinating study implementation, IRB submission and compliance, recruitment of participants, collection and coordination of laboratory specimens, data quality and analysis, and reporting requirements. There will also be many opportunities to lead or collaborate on research manuscripts.

In addition to the primary duties, additional opportunities with this position may include but are not limited to, developing and teaching public health courses or guest lectures in the MPH specializations of Epidemiology-Infectious Disease or Epidemiology-Food Safety in both face to face and distance formats, contributing to public health research and scholarship, and presenting at local, regional or national conferences.

This is a full-time grant funded, 2-year position with potential to extend pending additional funding.

The DPH offers a Master of Public Health (MPH), which is accredited through the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). We currently offer the MPH in two specializations, one of which includes subplans: Epidemiology-Infectious Diseases, Epidemiology-Food Safety, and Community Health Sciences, a dual MPH/PharmD (with the School of Pharmacy), several graduate certificates, and a Public Health minor for undergraduate students.

Currently, the Department of Public Health has 11 full-time faculty members and 11 research and administrative staff. There are 25-30 MPH students that matriculate each year, with approximately 30% using the distance learning option. The Department of Public Health is located in the NDSU College of Health Professions, where it benefits from strong relationships with the School of Nursing and the School of Pharmacy. Additional information about the Department can be found at www.ndsu.edu/publichealth .
