Position Description & Details:

An enthusiastic and highly motivated post-doctoral researcher is sought to join the lab of Dr. Britt Heidinger ( britt.heidinger@ndsu.edu ) in the Department of Biological Sciences at North Dakota State University (NDSU). This is an NSF funded position to study how rising temperatures are influencing rapid phenotypic divergence in house sparrows ( Passer domesticus ). The initial appointment is for 1 year but is renewable annually pending satisfactory performance for up to three years. The post-doc will be based at NDSU but will also conduct field work at other sites along a latitudinal gradient (SD, KS, OK and TX). The project is highly integrative and will include fieldwork, measuring contemporary and historical museum specimens, lab work (i.e., hormone assays, qPCR, and depending on experience transcriptomics), analyzing data, writing manuscripts, and presenting findings at scientific meetings. The post-doc will gain experience in research design, project organization, endocrine and molecular techniques, and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. The post-doc is also encouraged to pursue complimentary, independent lines of research. The start date is somewhat flexible, but ideally will begin as soon as possible.

Minimum Qualifications:

C Candidates must have 1) a Ph.D. in biological sciences or a related discipline from an accredited institution; 2) a demonstrated interest in research in evolutionary physiological ecology; and 3) strong oral and written communication skills, including an ability to work as part of team and collaborate with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

Pr Preference will be given to highly enthusiastic and motivated candidates with demonstrated experience in 1) avian field research; 2) physiology, 3) hormone assays, and 4) qPCR. Experience using transcriptomics is a plus but is not necessary.
