Tax Manager

Otter Tail Corporation is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join its corporate accounting team.  

This role, reporting to the VP of Accounting, is responsible for developing and implementing tax strategies and providing oversight of all aspects of income tax compliance and accounting and reporting for income taxes under US GAAP. This role engages with others within our corporate team and our subsidiary businesses requiring strong verbal and written communication skills.  Successful candidates will be self-motivated, possess strong analytical skills and be extremely deadline oriented. The ability to be persuasive, work collaboratively, and think critically is a must.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Tax planning – Oversee the planning, development and implementation of policies and programs, including strategic tax planning, for the entity and its subsidiaries

Tax compliance – Coordinate the accurate and timely completion of all federal and state income tax returns and identify and mitigate areas of tax risk

Tax accounting – Accurately calculate and prepare quarterly and annual tax provisions and disclosures under US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements

Monitoring & research – Monitor and research new, proposed and final regulations, tax law updates and US GAAP tax accounting matters and communicate tax risks, opportunities and strategies to company leadership

Manage & collaborate – Manage and lead tax team and collaborate with subsidiary company accounting departments to implement new processes and strategies

Internal control – Develop, maintain and monitor compliance with internal controls

Consult – Provide consultative services to subsidiary companies regarding various income and other tax matters

Education and Experience Requirements

10 years of progressive experience relative to the position

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field

CPA Preferred

Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
