Position Information

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, along with COBRE Center for Diagnostic and Therapeutic Strategies, has a 12-month position as Animal Core Facility Manager, renewable annually, depending on funding and performance. The successful candidate is expected to manage daily operations of the animal core facility to support the research of investigators involved with an NIH COBRE Center focused on pancreatic cancer diagnostics and therapeutics as well as the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences faculty. The successful candidate will perform assigned duties according to the national research council “Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals” and meet IACUC regulations. The responsibilities include facilitating, developing, and implementing animal protocols; ordering supplies and maintaining inventory; overseeing animal husbandry and mouse colonies; providing animal training for other researchers; ensuring facility operation (including any animal/facility emergencies that may arise outside of a typical working day), cleanliness, safety, and security; developing and updating the Animal Emergency Response Plan; preparing for and responding to IACUC inspections; and organizing activities for the COBRE Center such as campus-wide animal research; prepare Animal Core renewal proposal for submission to National Institutes of Health in 2021.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree with three years of rodent research experience.

Exceptional organizational, written, and interpersonal skills

W illingness to work collaboratively as a team member

E xperience working with individuals with diverse backgrounds and differing viewpoints.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph. D. degree with at least two years of rodent research experience

Prior experience in a laboratory, including maintaining inventory, ordering supplies, managing lab budgets, and collecting user fees.

Experience with animal models of pancreatic cancer, including orthotopic xenograft, allograft, and transgenic models.

Experience working with small animals, performing routine surgical procedures, and mouse genotyping.

Experience with ultrasound imaging of mice, animal tissue harvesting, and histology.

Experience with a patient-derived xenograft rodent model of pancreatic cancer

Experience with organoid generation from patient pancreatic cancer samples

Experience with therapeutic efficacy evaluation of small molecules and nanoparticles in mice models of cancer, especially the orthotopic mouse model of pancreatic cancer

Experience managing mouse colonies, including breeding colonies.

Screening for possible infections in animal colonies by maintaining sentinels and carrying out screening procedures.

Experience writing animal protocols.

Experience training and supervising.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, reference software (EndNote), and data processing (Origin or similar).
