Typical Day in the Life



A typical day as an Information Security Analyst will have you monitoring and responding to risks, incident, alerts, and events that could compromise the confidentiality, integrity, availability, or privacy of the firm’s information assets. In performing the following duties, you will collaborate with other members of the Information Technology Services (ITS) team, support the Information Security Director (ISD), and educate others to help mitigate information security risks to the firm:


  • Analyzing system-generated alerts and security events, identifying incidents, and chronologically documenting and reporting findings to the ISD
  • Analyzing and responding to user-generated security alerts and reports, including submissions to phishing reporting inbox.  Following established procedures to inspect, contain, eradicate, and recover from social engineering attacks to the Firm
  • Analyzing system log and event information to ensure the veracity and completeness of security event logging and alerting systems.  Propose changes to logging systems and strategy to correct for gaps in coverage
  • Assisting with the development of processes and procedures to improve incident response times, analysis of incidents, and overall security functions
  • Investigating or assisting ISD in investigating security breaches and gathering data and information to determine system weaknesses
  • Delivering metrics that provide the ISD insight into the security posture of the Firm or of key business systems operations
  • Coordinating with the ISD to implement and participate in ITS projects and conducti limited risk assessments for the assigned project
  • Proactively identifying and analyzing internal and external threats.  Researching threats and attacking vectors that impact applications and infrastructure and generate Security Requirements. Translating security requirements into standard configurations and security patching on client computers
  • Creating, testing, and implementing Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans
  • Verifying the security of third-party vendors and ensuring that risk related to a vendor is understood by the firm
  • Resolving employee-reported security questions and concerns reported in the ITS ticketing system efficiently and in a manner that meets employee and Firm expectations




Who You Are
  • You hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree
  • Five or more (5+) years of experience in information security, privacy, system or network administration, or information technology/services support
  • CISSP, SANS, CISA, CRISC, and/or IGP certifications preferred
  • You possess working knowledge of information security concepts and methodologies, as well a practical understanding of security principles such as authentication, authorization, access control, assessment, protection, and incident response strategies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writin.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines by setting priorities with work projects
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and clients
  • You are proficient with computers, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and related programs
