Position Description & Details:

The Department of Pharmacy Practice at North Dakota State University School of Pharmacy is seeking a qualified individual for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice. The individual will serve as a clinical pharmacist in advanced community/ambulatory pharmacy. The practice will entail providing and billing for medication therapy management (MTM), disease-state management, and public health initiatives within Southpointe pharmacy in Fargo, ND. Patient recruitment and collaboration with the North Dakota Pharmacists Association and other community/ambulatory pharmacists in the state will be an important aspect of the position. It is envisioned that the individual will serve as champion for development and expansion of clinical services in a community pharmacy setting in North Dakota and will serve as an educator and resource for other pharmacists in the state to implement and expand clinical programs in community pharmacies.

The individual will be responsible for coordinating and teaching within the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) didactic curriculum in an Introduction to Pharmacy and Healthcare Systems course, an immunizations course, in the NDPhA Pharmacy Skills laboratory, and other pharmacy courses with emphasis on community/ambulatory practice. Additionally, the individual is expected to perform research/scholarship, as well as service to the School/College/University and provide clinical pharmacy services, and precept Pharm.D. students during Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences.

Responsibilities:

Practice Site Hours: 91 days per year. Generally, the faculty will practice on-site (and/or remotely if conducting telehealth) approximately2.5 days/week to total 91 days in the calendar year.

Clinical Services : Champion for development and expansion of clinical services in a community pharmacy setting in North Dakota (exemplary site and services) in collaboration with Community Pharmacy (PIC), NDPhA (Mike Schwab) and About the Patient (Jesse Rue). Primary responsibility will be a mbulatory care service development and expansion in the community pharmacy setting.
  • 80% (2 days/week) of time dedicated to:
  • ND Medical Assistance (MA) MTM program - identifying patients, providing MTM services and billing ND MA.
  • About the Patient Diabetes program - identifying new patients and providing MTM services
  • ND Health Information Network - transitions of care, integrating retail pharmacy with hospital admissions, discharges, and other services
  • Other as of yet clinical/patient care unknown programs
  • 20% (0.5 days a week/every other week) flexible time dedicated to patient care follow up, data evaluation and assessment, statewide outreach, counseling, dispensing, and immunization services.


  • Teaching (18 workload credits):
    • Academic/Co-curriculum advising: 10 students
    • APPE rotations/year (type: TBD): 7 rotations (7-14 students)
    • Possible didactic teaching Fall semester:
      • Coordination/administration of Top Drugs PHRM 400 and PHRM 500 (2 credits)
      • PHRM 340: help with patient assessment (BP, diabetic foot exam): 10 hours
      • PHRM 353: Course coordination; Select topics (affective domain: leadership, self-awareness, professionalism) and top drugs content/exams (1.5 credits)
      • Public Health Poster mentor
    • Possible didactic teaching Spring semester
      • PHRM 560 Immunizations (1.5 credits)
      • MTM in PHRM 552L (4-6 groups)
    • Other possible teaching (based on the curriculum need):
      • 1-2 weeks in the Concept Pharmacy weekly activity lead
      • Other needs

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Pharm.D. degree
    • Completed/completing a PGY1 ASHP-accredited residency, or have accumulated at least three years of recent and consistent experience in advanced community pharmacy or ambulatory care clinical pharmacy practice
    • Eligible for pharmacist licensure in North Dakota
    • Eligible to provide immunizations in North Dakota
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Excellent leadership and collaboration skills
    • Demonstration of self-development

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Completed a PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency Program with an ambulatory care focus or other PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program with ambulatory care focus.
    • Accumulated more than 3 years of consistent experience in MTM, chronic disease management clinical services, and/or population health approaches
    • Experience with MTM platforms, such as Outcomes and Mirixa
    • Experiences with immunizations and/or holding immunization training certificate
    • Certification as a pharmacy immunization trainer
    • Experience in working with diverse populations
    • Teaching experience in pharmacy or medical programs
    • Precepting experience in pharmacy or medical programs
    • Board of Pharmacy Specialties certification in ambulatory care, pharmacotherapy or geriatric pharmacy.
    • Additional certifications in ambulatory care areas, such as Certified Diabetes Educator, Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist, Certified Asthma Educator, etc.
    • Research/scholarship experience
    • Experience with procuring and managing grants
