Software Engineer I

Smart Solutions is searching for two Software Engineers for a website redesign project. We seek two imaginative web developers who can work alongside the software application team to achieve our top-notch partners' goals. Are you a hands-on professional with a strong knowledge of content management platforms and an ability to translate the business needs into client-friendly functions that expand a website's influence for an organization? If so, you could be our ideal candidate! The Software Engineers in this position will be responsible for updating our partner's current online applications.

This project is scheduled to last through June 2021, with the possibility for extensions. The start date for this role is early January 2021. Due to COVID-19, these openings will start off remote but eventually come into on-site roles in Madison, WI.

We are looking for two different skillsets:

• Front-end Developer :
  • Take Photoshop mockups and translate them into HTML/CSS
  • Combination of programming skills (PHP, HTML, CSS, JS, and more) and aesthetics (understanding element arrangements on the screen, the color and font choices, and more)
  • Strong understanding of higher education trends and content management systems
• Desired Skills:
  • Experience with responsive and adaptive design
  • Knowledge of the entire web development process, including design, development, and deployment, with some back-end knowledge
  • Drupal experience would be ideal

• Back-end Developer :
  • Primarily be responsible for back-end and module development
  • Write custom Drupal 9 modules
  • Able to port the existing integrations and add to them as needed
  • Operate mostly independently, think critically, and align with the organization's vision and mission
  • Follow-through on solutions to completion
• Desired Skills:
  • Experience working on website design projects for an educational institution

Skills and Qualifications

• Front-end Developer:
  • 1 to 3+ years of experience performing web development related work with demonstrable skills for a website redesign project
  • Experience building user interfaces for websites or web applications
  • Very fluent with HTML, JS, and CSS
  • Experience working with a Style Guide and working with PHP
  • Ability to write JavaScript with and without the use of frameworks such as jQuery
  • Expertise in designing and developing responsive design websites
  • Comfortable working with debugging tools like Firebug, Chrome inspector, and more
  • Ability to understand CSS changes to have consistent style across platforms and browsers
  • Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages
  • Solid understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (Requirements, Design, Development, and Testing) and exposure to Agile or iterative SDLCs
  • Familiarity with Git as a version control system

• Back-end Developer :
  • 1 to 3+ years of experience performing web development related work with demonstrable skills for a website redesign project
  • Experience developing web solutions in Drupal and PHP implementations in a LAMP environment
  • Ability to architect enterprise Drupal solutions including data, display, and information architecture
  • Advanced site-building experience, including deep familiarity with Drupal modules such as Views, Workbench, and Webform
  • Expertise creating custom Drupal modules (ideally Drupal 8/9 knowledge)
  • Knowledge of the Drupal theme layer
  • Experience building responsive websites using Drupal CMS, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/jQuery
  • Solid understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (Requirements, Design, Development, and Testing) and exposure to Agile or iterative SDLCs
  • Background with Git as a version control system
