This position is located at the EERC, an international leader in energy and environmental research, conducting projects for clients throughout the United States and the world. We are looking for experienced, aggressive, scientifically trained, and market-oriented individuals to contribute to the success of the organization by performing one or more of the following functions:

  • Work in strong collaboration with EERC subject matter experts, principal investigators, and EERC leadership to conduct laboratory analyses, experiments, and interpret laboratory data to support research activities related to energy production from coal and oil, recovery of rare earth elements (REEs) and other critical minerals from domestic resources, and characterization of fluids related to oil production.
  • Perform independent analytical research focused on chemical characterization of coal, biomass, oil, fly ash, water, rocks, and other natural and man-made materials.
  • Interpret laboratory data, apply findings for problem solving and write reports.
  • Work as part of a diverse, multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers to ensure that laboratory work is successfully completed on time, on budget, and within client expectations.
  • Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and assist in regular review and updating of laboratory safety plans.
  • Work closely with senior staff, project managers, and laboratory staff to develop and expand the research-based efforts occurring in the laboratories.
  • Some travel is required.

Required Competencies

  • Hands-on experience with analytical equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs/modifications.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, geochemistry, geology, or closely related field with strong fundamental knowledge of analytical chemistry.
  • Minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience that includes sample preparation, digestions, chemical isolation, extraction, and instrumental analysis.
  • Experience with one or more of the following instruments and associated software: ICP-MS, ICP-OES, IC, LA-ICP-MS
  • Minimum of 3 years of energy- or environmental-related research experience.
  • Experience adhering to and implementing laboratory safety and quality assurance (QA)/quality control (QC) protocols.

  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, geochemistry, geology, or closely related field.
  • Five or more years of laboratory experience, that includes sample preparation, digestion, and instrumental analysis.
  • Quantitative inorganic analytical chemistry with a focus on mercury and other trace metal analysis and data interpretation.
  • Experience working for the oil and gas industry.
  • Experience performing laboratory-related research in one or more of the following areas: Energy production from coal and oil; recovery of rare earth elements (REEs) and other critical minerals from domestic resources; and characterization of fluids related to oil production.

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

Starting Salary $60,000 Annual/Full-Time, Benefited, Exempt

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Some travel required.

Benefits
