Northrop Grumman Defense Systems designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Systems Engineer Architect 3/4 to work at our Missile Products Division in Plymouth, MN. The ideal candidate will have leadership abilities, an intense desire to learn, and experience working in an engineering environment.

Job Summary:

Responsibilities will include working in an IPT environment. The successful candidate will participate or lead the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge established technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Other functions will include functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation studies including allocation to hardware and software, interface definition and management, proposal writing and bidding, and management of recurring product cost and program risk.

This position will support the following key activities:
  • Coordination of Systems Engineering activities with project management, project leads and engineers, and functional management.
  • Create and manage requirements, generate specifications while working closely with internal and external customers.
  • Develop CONOPS, generate timelines, perform functional decomposition and/or use case analysis, establish and control baselines, implement configuration management for requirement changes, establish and maintain requirement traceability, allocate requirements and decompose to lower levels and identify key and major characteristics.
  • Reporting of metrics which include Key Performance Parameters (KPPs) and Technical Performance Measurements (TPMs), SWaP.
  • Work closely with design IPTs to manage development of interface control documents and drawings to document the internal and external interfaces.
  • Participate in the planning of the verification and validation program; document approach, philosophy, guidelines, and processes to perform and support the management of verification activities.
  • Create and review SE created artifacts.
  • Develop system and subsystem architectures(s), system physical views - system elements (blocks) and critical interfaces (internal and external) and develop system/subsystem architectural models.
  • Support testing and/or evaluation/validation of complete system and subsystem analytical models or actual system implementation.
  • Support the application of using system or subsystem analytical models and simulations to validate large scale system behavior.
  • Preparation of supporting and presentation materials for various System Engineering Technical Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings and other formal program reviews.
  • Prepare of trade studies, system sensitivity studies, design optimization studies, system performance assessments, system design assessments & other analyses to support requirements, development and design assessments.
  • Support IPT leadership and interfaces to customer for System Engineering and product development activities.
  • Support the cost account manager to manage cost, schedule, technical performance and monthly earned value management system reporting.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications Level 3:
  • BS degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science
  • 5 years of related experience to include Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Knowledge/experience with Cameo, No Magic
  • Knowledge/experience with IBM DOORS
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance
Basic Qualifications Level 4:
  • BS degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science
  • 9 years of related experience to include Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Knowledge/experience with Cameo, No Magic
  • Knowledge/experience with IBM DOORS
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance
