Position Information

Position Description & Details: Research and Creative Activity (RCA) provides oversight and handles administrative issues that pertain to NDSU research. The Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) office is the central administrative support office within RCA for external funding for research and scholarly activity on campus. SPA is responsible for administering research-related policies, procedures, and programs for coordination of research-related services. Specifically, the office provides services for university faculty and staff conducting or seeking to conduct research or other scholarly activity using external funds. SPA has oversight of various research compliance functions and also compiles data and generates reports regarding research and externally funded scholarly activities across the university.

The purpose of this position is to review and provide signature approval for proposals submitted to external sponsors for funding. The position also reviews, negotiates, and approves awards/agreements and other contractual amendments/modifications. This position provides supervision and back-up support to the Program Assistant, and provides back-up assistance to the Assistant Director on budget reviews and approvals.

Responsibilities:

Proposal tasks:

*Review & provide University signature approval of proposals to external sponsors

*Work with campus constituents on proposal issues

*Provide backup for proposal budget review & electronic submissions

Award tasks:

*Negotiate and provide University signature approval of awards from external sponsors

*Work with award sponsors on amendments/modifications

*Provide backup for award verification in electronic research administration system

Other tasks:

*Supervise program assistant.

*Provide back-up to Assistant Director.

*Primary responsibility for maintenance of SPA website.

Work Schedule: 40 hours/week (M-F: regular hours 8am-5pm, summer/winter break hours 7:30am-4pm)

Advertised Salary: $50,000/year+, commensurate with experience

Minimum Qualifications:

B.S. or B.A. in business administration, accounting, or related field OR B.S. or B.A. in another field with 5 years related sponsored program/grant experience.

3 years supervisory experience (direct, indirect or combination).

Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Possess and utilize a helpful, customer service-oriented attitude.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Ability to multitask and prioritize.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Possess strong PC skills (spreadsheet, web, email) adequate to perform the job.

Experience with or working knowledge of pre-award sponsored program requirements

(i.e. proposal budget development, negotiation of basic awards/agreements).

Familiarity with federal regulations and policies governing external funding agreements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer University experience with Sponsored Programs Administration and/or post-award accounting.

Prefer experience and knowledge of post-award Sponsored Programs Administration issues.
