Job Summary

Perform laboratory testing according to established standards and regulations to assist the provider in diagnosis and treatment of the patients. Required to perform clinical laboratory testing and other necessary duties to keep the department functioning smoothly. Will work with self discipline, good judgment, and considerable independence while following established standards of practice. Overall will demonstrate technical competency and will consult with leadership when necessary. Needs to recognize responsibilities of other laboratory and health care personnel and interact with respect for their jobs and patient care. Understand the use and limitations of laboratory instruments and equipment, must demonstrate proficiency in assigned areas, be able to learn and utilize new technology as laboratory medicine changes. Must be able to work with growth and development needs of unique client populations for the all age groups. Perform laboratory testing according to established standards and regulations to assist the provider in diagnosis and treatment of the patients.

Department Details

This position is open to both Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist applicants. The Bemidji Lab services a Level III trauma center and treats over 27,000 patients annually with expanded services in cancer, cardiology, orthopedics and women’s health. Areas of testing include chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, immunology, immunohematology, microbiology and histology. This is a part-time position, 20 hours a week, working a variety of shifts at the Bemidji Medical Center Core Lab.

Qualifications

Requires completion of an approved Medical Laboratory Technician/Scientist program.
Must have knowledge of laboratory equipment, procedures, CLIA regulations, and quality control methods.
Must hold current national certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician/Scientist (ASCP). If the associate is not certified at hire, the associate must become so within one year of the date of hire.
