Responsible for performing ultrasounds in a professional and diagnostic manner. Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic images. Thoroughly understand the operation of the ultrasound machine and utilize new technologies. Performs a variety of ultrasound examinations. Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with patients and all organizational staff.
Maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase the level of understanding and knowledge of the sonography field. Displays empathy, compassion, and integrity.
Possesses an understanding of cross-sectional anatomy. Conducts self professionally at all times, even during moments of high stress.
Assists when necessary with the maintenance of accreditation requirements and processes. Understands age-related protocols for various testing. Coordinate work with physicians or other healthcare team members, including providing assistance during invasive procedures when applicable.
Supervises and train students and medical sonographers as needed. Reports and calls in-service requests on equipment when needed.
Additionally, based on the facility, some Sanford markets/facility sites may expand job responsibilities to include echocardiography.
We have seventeen highly trained and dedicated Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. Each of them, is board certified or board eligible as Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. This means they have consistently demonstrated professional standards, as well as achieved a level of competency in technical procedures and patient care.
Our Ultrasound Department, has a wide range of years of experience, from 45 years to 1 year. With the growth of the hospital in the inpatient and outpatient load, we, as an Ultrasound department, will continue to grow to keep up with the demand. We take pride in our work, as a sonographer, and ensure that we are providing the best patient care to our patients.
The Sanford Radiology Ultrasound has 3 locations on the Sanford campus that the sonographers rotate through, with state of the art inpatient and outpatient exam rooms. Those locations are the Sanford Hospital, Sanford Children’s and Vandemark Clinic. Procedures performed include Abdominal, Abdominal Doppler, Small Parts, GYN, Musculoskeletal, Interventional procedures (paracentesis, thoracentesis, biopsies, MSK injections, and D&C in surgery), Limited OB, and Limited Breast. Pediatric and Neonatal exams that are performed Abdominal, Small Parts, Hips, Head, GYN, Renal Biopsies.
The shifts include Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekend and Holiday rotation.
We are proud to be accredited by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). This association is dedicated to promoting the safe and effective use of ultrasound. Accreditation means we have nationally accepted standards and consistently demonstrated excellence in patient care.
Graduate of an accredited school of Diagnostic Imaging, Allied Health Certificate/Diploma or a minimum of one year equivalent work experience is preferred.
Registration in at least one of the following areas of sonography is required: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or registry eligible.
Registry preferred within two years after hiring.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six weeks of employment and re-certification as necessary is required.
