Job Summary

May assign accurate and Timely codes to the medical record for optimal reimbursement, data collection, and statistical reporting. May ensure medical record is complete and complies with regulatory and third party payer requirements. Will be responsible for releasing information. Must also have computer skills, the ability to interpret, analyze and abstract data/documentation, have good problem-solving skills, be self-motivated and have good Time management and organizational skills. Performs other related duties as assigned.

If job duties require, individual must have specific knowledge of diagnostic terminology and ICD-10 diagnosis with a working knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology to understand disease processes, treatment or management of conditions either medically or surgically. Must also be current in coding schemes and have knowledge of prospective payment systems and clinical practices and technology.


May be required to complete the Medical Practices Office Management course and be able to be certified as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or be able to acquire certification within two years.

Health Information Management (HIM) education or experience preferred.

Coding or Health Information Management (HIM) related certification preferred.
