Position Information

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Responsible for the creation, planning, coordination and management of programs, events and initiatives to meet BSC student retention and success goals. Responsible for promoting programs and engaging students with success opportunities.
  2. Responsible for providing direct support for collaboration and outreach efforts to assist with retention and success.
  3. Responsible for facilitating student success by providing consultation and support by engaging faculty and staff in student retention efforts.
  4. Responsible for establishing, analyzing and creating strategy to meet BSC retention goals.

Position Description & Details

Planning, directing, coordinating and monitoring retention programs 80%
  1. Act as the lead for all student retention initiatives.
  2. Assists the VPSA with goal setting to maximize student retention, persistence, and completion.
  3. Oversees the College retention plan from student enrollment to student completion/exit.
  4. Identifies and recommends to the VPSA new and/or revised strategies to maximize enrollment and retention of new and returning students. Assists in the implementation and evaluation of these strategies.
  5. Works with Institutional Research to develop retention metrics for campus-wide reporting. Coordinates the use of metrics used to assess, plan, implement and evaluate strategies for meeting retention goals.
  6. Responsible for developing and maintaining continuous communications with enrolled students via telephone, written correspondence, texts, and other social media.
  7. Monitors enrollment and retention trends. Provides analytical reports to include data relevant to student needs, retention, attrition, student success, persistence and graduation rates. Leads efforts to regularly bring together departments to identify and track students at risk of attrition and develops interventions.
  8. Manages BSC's retention software, intervention strategies and reports software report to the VPSA.

Working directly with students, faculty and staff on retention efforts - 15%
  1. Works in collaboration with Academic Deans to identify and create academic-focused retention programming.
  2. Works directly with staff and faculty for the purpose of maximizing retention of students.
  3. Develops programs and at times may personally meet with struggling students.

Miscellaneous duties - 5%
  1. Supports innovation, creativity and ideas to improve/enhance processes, functions, etc. in the department and as a whole for the college.
  2. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Status: Full-time (100%)

Minimum Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree in special education, counseling, psychology, social work, or related field.
  2. Three to five years in a comparable position in a college or agency setting.
  3. Strong advocacy, problem solving and referral skills.
  4. Knowledge of crisis intervention strategies; helping skills.
  5. Knowledge of student development theory and practice.
  6. Ability to establish rapport and work harmoniously with institutional officers, faculty, staff, students, public school personnel and others.
  7. Ability to plan, organize, and determine methods that produce desired results and meet required deadlines.
  8. Good verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Proficient in working knowledge of computer software programs (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite-Word, Excel, etc., email and electronic calendar - Outlook) and good keyboarding skills.
  10. Ability to maintain confidentiality.


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience in advising, counseling, and/or related field.
  2. Previous Higher Education experience.
  3. Demonstrated ability to independently develop advising and retention strategies using data-driven decision making based on complex data analytics.
  4. Experience working with staff, faculty and administrators in higher education.
