Position Information

The Business Analyst position for the Enrollment Management Administrative Systems (EMAS) department is situated in the division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management (SAEM) at NDSU. The EMAS department works with NDSU departments to support the SAEM mission of providing students with inclusive, comprehensive services and co-curricular experiences. The EMAS department shares the SAEM vision that our work, from recruitment to graduation, prepares students to lead meaningful lives and contribute to society. EMAS provides support for data reporting and analytics; business process development, automation, and maintenance for SAEM departments; and system support for student information systems and document imaging and third-party systems.

The Business Analyst position primarily works with NDSU departments to compile data, design and maintain processes to increase efficiency and promote automation, and provide support for Student Information System (SIS - PeopleSoft Campus Solutions) used by the North Dakota University System. This position works with PeopleSoft Query Manager environments to query data for many processes and reports. A successful candidate will have experience querying and compiling and analyzing data. The Business Analyst works extensively with Microsoft Excel and Access applications and future development is leaning toward Excel (Power Query\PowerPivot) and Power BI. Basic programming knowledge is helpful but not required. Strong communication skills and a focus on diversity and inclusion are important for maintaining effective relationships for the many people this position supports. The business Analyst will often be called on to convey complex information or concepts to a broad audience. In all capacities, the Business Analyst must ensure data and processes are compliant with University system, NDSU, Federal, and State policies and regulations. This position works with a broad range of departments but is focused as the point position for the office of Financial Aid. Knowledge of Federal and State financial aid regulations and aid processing processes in a higher education setting is a strong asset for this position.

Advertised Salary: $48,000+/year

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with data management/reporting, business analysis, and/or business process automation
  • Basic understanding of methods for extracting and compiling data from different sources,
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Access, and/or PowerBI
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated adaptability to change and commitment to personal and team growth
  • Clear and Effective oral and written communication

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Related Experience in a higher education setting working with student data
  • Peoplesoft campus solutions and/or Peoplesoft query experience
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel Power Query (M), Access VBA and/or PowerBI (DAX)
  • Experience with scripting languages (VB, VBA, Python, JavaScript, etc.)
  • Experience with Financial Aid office operations
