Position Information

Position Description:

The Department of Plant Pathology at North Dakota State University welcomes applications for a postdoctoral research associate position. The successful applicant will develop and optimize molecular assays to detect and quantify plant-parasitic nematode species, utilize the assays for nematode plant disease risk assessment, and sequence and analyze genomes of plant-parasitic nematodes of importance in North Dakota. In addition, this position will provide support for applied and basic research in plant nematology, supervising graduate students, preparing manuscripts, research proposals and reports, maintaining lab equipment and supplies, and maintaining material and biological resources . The appointment is for 12 months with extension possible depending on satisfactory performance and funding.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Plant Pathology, Nematology, Plant Sciences or a related field earned before the start date; research experience in applied molecular biology; experience working with microorganisms or plants; ability to communicate effectively in English; ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in developing quantitative real-time PCR procedures for detecting and/or quantifying plant-parasitic nematodes in plants or soils; experience with molecular techniques such as PCR, sequence analysis, and primer and probe design; experience with soybean cyst nematode, root-lesion nematode, and stubby root nematode; experience with laboratory, greenhouse and field research.

Salary: $45,000
