Food Science Lab Technician

Pilot Plant Technician, Research and Development
Location: White Bear Lake, MN
Hours: M-F Standard Business
8 Month Contract Position
$17-18/hr Dependent on experience
Job Summary:

• Operate pilot scale dairy manufacturing equipment to produce samples for customers and internal testing.
• Accurately weigh and measure raw ingredients for formula development.
• Maintain pilot scale dairy equipment through weekly preventative maintenance, including cleaning and parts replacement Input recipes into formula development software as provided by Scientists for preparation of benchtop and pilot plant samples.
• Evaluate and test finished products, raw ingredients, and experimental samples; record and document data.
• Maintain laboratory and equipment including the cleaning of the ice cream freezers.
• Assist with shipping/receiving related to ingredients and customer samples and ingredients.
• Manage inventory of ingredients and lab supplies, assist in ordering supplies for laboratory and keep a clean and orderly work environment.
• Conduct shelf-life evaluation of various dairy products, including microbiological and sensory evaluation.
• Perform additional duties as required by management.

Job Requirements:

• Education: Preferred Bachelors of Science Degree in Food Science, Biology, Dairy Science or related discipline or Associate degree with relevant experience.
• Experience: 0-3 years experience in food industry. Dairy, beverage, or cultured products experience a plus.
• Computer Skills: Microsoft Office. Understanding of computerized database management with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work under adverse conditions to include limited exposure to a 35 degree temperature cold storage environment. Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds.
