Job Summary

Receives and prepares tissue specimens for routine and special examinations. Performs complex histological procedures using techniques to gross, embed, perform microtomy, and stain to make tissue slides used for diagnosis. Associate Histology Technician: Performs histological procedures to embed, stain, and mount samples using routine and special techniques to make tissue
slides used for diagnosis. Examines specimen slides; enters and tracks result information and generates result reports. Maintains and repairs lab instruments. Sterilizes work area and stocks supplies. Ensures all lab safety, quality control and
quality assurance standards are met. Will work with self-discipline and good judgment while following established standards of practice. Will be responsible for performing routine duties in all areas of the Histology Laboratory. May be required to interact with all ages of client population. Recognize responsibilities of other laboratory and health care personnel and interact with respect for their jobs and patient care. Keep abreast of new procedures in the department as well as changes in general hospital policy and procedures.
Histology Technician: Responsible to review slide quality. Maintains and repairs lab instruments. Disinfects work area and stocks supplies. Ensures all lab safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met. Will work with self-discipline and good judgment while following established standards of practice. Will be responsible for performing routine duties in all areas of the Histology Laboratory. May be required to interact with all ages of client population. Recognize responsibilities of other laboratory and health care personnel and interact with respect for their jobs and patient care. Keep abreast of new procedures in the department as well as changes in general hospital policy and procedures.

Department Details

This is a full-time position working Tuesday-Friday from 9:00am -7:30pm. No weekends or holidays.

Qualifications

Associate Histology Technician: Associates degree required.

Histology Technician: Appropriate education level based on certification required. Associates degree preferred.
Possess a national certification as a Histology Technician from an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
