Business Systems Analyst needed for a 1 Year+ Month Contract in Madison, WI!

Position Summary:
The Office of Data Management & Analytics Services (ODMAS) serves a vital role in providing
reliable, consistent answers to critical campus questions through enterprise data architecture,
integrations, and analytic solutions enabled through a robust data governance framework. (See

As part of an exciting modernization of the University of Wisconsin-Madison's data and analytics
architecture, the Business Systems Analyst (Senior) will support the design and delivery of
enterprise analytics solutions associated with the UW-Madison Analytics Strategy and Roadmap,
which includes: migration to a cloud architecture and toolset; implementation of enterprise data management tools; rearchitecting curated data models around integrated cross-domain insights;
new delivery of previously unavailable data domains; and building the framework for future expansion into unstructured data exploration, data mining, predictive analytics, and other advanced data science use cases. As part of their role, they will perform discovery and scoping activities for
prioritized projects; lead subject-matter experts through requirements elicitation/documentation;
facilitate iterative design/prototyping sessions; document functional specifications and ensure
alignment with technical specifications; documents test cases, test solutions, facilitate user
acceptance testing, troubleshoot/document issues, and coordinate fixes/enhancements through to
production deployment.

The individual in this role is expected to be a creative problem solver and process improver and is
required to have strong analytical and technical skills combined with excellent communication skills,
combined with the ability to build and maintain trusted client relationships with key stakeholders.

Principal duties

75% Business Systems Analyst
???Elicit requirements using interviews, requirements workshops, user stories, scenarios, etc.
???Document tasks, user stories, workflow processes, and use cases, ensuring requirements and to-be state are satisfied
???Leverage subject matter expertise to advise customers on options, risks and costs, and ensure solutions meet the needs of the business
???Document the detailed business requirements in a traceable, testable and verifiable format
???Conduct and facilitate meetings/discussions to obtain business and functional requirements
???Support test strategy and test requirements definition, development of test scenarios, and
execution of test plans
???Evaluate information gathered from multiple sources and reconcile conflicts
???Collaborate with developers to determine possible solutions
???Document issues and manage conflict to resolve
???Effectively communicate project status, issues, schedule and accomplishments to various
management and stakeholder groups, as needed
???Work within project deadlines, schedules, and multiple competing priorities to consistently deliver high-quality work product
???Provides coaching and support to consultants and/or less senior staff in areas of expertise

15% Support & Maintenance
???Provide technical/functional production support activities including timely resolution of all issues, issue tracking, and communication with other involved parties
???Ensure ongoing configuration and maintenance of the system
???Test, troubleshoot, and provide support to ensure that the system properly performs in
accordance with predefined functional requirements
???Perform quality assurance to ensure that newly developed processes meet the requirements of campus policies, accounting standards, and procedures.
???Train end users on new and existing functionality

5% Other Duties

???Be an active member of regional and national user groups, including presenting at conferences
???Serve as member of various campus teams and working groups

Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Computer Science/MIS, science, healthcare-related
science; or high school degree/general education diploma and 4-6 years of relevant experience in
lieu of degree.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
???A minimum of 2 years of professional work experience as business analyst, quality analyst, or
product owner on technology development (analytics and data management) projects.
???1+ year experience in a hands-on functional role supporting systems development, systems
implementation, quality assurance, or similar experience.
???Experience working under SDLC or other software-specific project management process, including Agile/Scrum

???Knowledge of PeopleSoft HR/Finance/Student ERP back-end data structures highly desirable
???Demonstrated expertise in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio, Project, and
PowerPoint) required
???Demonstrated expertise in enterprise data analysis and query tools: e.g., Tableau, TOAD, OBIEE, Cognos, PowerBI, Hadoop, R/Python
