Position Overview

The Senior Director provides overall leadership, direction and management to select College Advancement fundraising activities including the College of Business Administration, Communication, Education and The Graduate School. (S)he will strategically develop relationships and implement fundraising strategies that will be academic centric and support identified college priorities. The Senior Director will also maintain a personal portfolio of prospects and donors and will work to create a coaching culture of personal accountability to support success.

Duties and Responsibilities

In collaboration with key UA partners, create, communicate and manage a comprehensive and accountable fundraising process that builds portfolios with the highest qualified prospects, creates effective plans for cultivation and solicitations and sets performance standards for each academic unit.

Strategically build relationships and collaborate with Deans and Vice Presidents to create a strong partnership between UA and each academic unit/program.

Drive on the annual planning process and fundraising annual plans.

Directly manage a portfolio of prospects and donors with active cultivation, solicitation and stewardship with potential involvement with academic priorities (via committee).

Travel to meet with assigned portfolio prospects.

Oversee the budgetary resources for the teams to optimize the University's fundraising investment.

Provide coaching and mentoring to Directors of Development and team, as needed, to bolster efforts and results.

Own, manage and execute special projects/initiatives for University Advancement as required.

Benchmark best practices, as needed.

Maintains appropriate contact with prospects and records substantive information in university advancement database system.

Attends relevant university events and meetings, some during the evenings and weekends; represents the university to external constituents.

Additional responsibilities and/or projects, as assigned based on department priorities.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.

Five to seven years of development experience and basic knowledge of the tax system, charitable estate planning, estate administration procedures and marketing, knowledge of deferred giving instruments and tax incentive giving, as well as management experience, is needed.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as superior interpersonal and organizational skills, are essential.

The ability to work within a complex environment as well as a strong commitment to Marquette's character as an urban institution, its goals, mission and Jesuit Catholic tradition is needed.

Support of UA's culture focused on service, collaboration and persistence is also essential.

The ability to travel is required, with approximately 40% of time spent outside of the office.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Master's degree preferred.
