This position is involved in the general professional and scientific work in the field of pharmacy. This position is located at Cheyenne River Service Unit, Eagle Butte, SD. This facility provides comprehensive health care to Native Americans residing in or near the service area. This position is responsible for the overall supervision of the pharmacy program for the hospital.
Provides technical and administrative supervision to all pharmacy staff members within the Pharmacy Department, both outpatient and inpatient.
Assigns work to subordinates; evaluates work performance; advise or counsel employees on work and administrative matters.
Provides direct pharmaceutical services by selecting, procuring, preparing and dispensing medications.
Assures that staff is in compliance with all JCAHO standard and guidelines as well as the provision of IHS manual, standards of conduct and Privacy Act, and quality assurance in the pharmacy services.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (eg, Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (eg, professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
AND
Basic Requirements for the GS-13 (or equivalent) Grade Level In addition to the requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) level, applicants must have a minimum of one year of professional pharmacy experience.
Specialized Experience: Experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position
Specialized Experience for the GS-13: Provides inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services and carries out the pharmacy functions of drug selection, compounding and dispensing as prescribed, including IV and chemotherapy drugs; takes steps to prevent drug reactions or interactions; ensure correct labeling, handling and storage of pharmaceutical products; prepares and maintains department budget; creates schedules and assigns work for subordinates, evaluates work performance, ensures staff maintains and is current with all JCAHO standards and credentialing; teach pharmacy techniques/procedures to other pharmacists.
The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
