Job Summary:

Our client is a small office of about 7 professional tax preparers, with tenured staff. This position could lead into a Principle role due to upcoming retirement in a couple of years. I currently work with this firm to do my taxes and must say they are an excellent group of professionals to work with!

This is a multi-office accounting and consulting CPA firm, recognized as one of the Top 25 Public Accounting and Business Consulting firms in Minnesota and has been nationally recognized as one of the Top 300 Public Accounting firms in the nation. This position is responsible for leading and managing multiple tax engagements and staff deliverables including the preparation of complex individual and business tax returns, extensions, reviewing compiled financial statements and reviewing tax planning projections, and researching complex technical tax issues. This person will provide support to senior, staff and entry level accountants, and other supervisors/managers and principals. Prioritizes workflow and manages multiple deadlines within required time constraints. Leads projects and identifies at least two areas of specialization. Works efficiently and demonstrates flexibility to changes in schedules and work hours and regularly exercises independent judgment and discretion about accounting matters of significance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviews compiled financial statements and various income tax returns for assigned clients, including individual, corporate, multi-state, etc.
  • Recognizes, anticipates, and resolves complex tax issues and make recommendations.
  • Mentors and leads staff and provides training for new and existing staff.
  • Assists in manages existing client relationships and supports business development efforts.
  • Understands and effectively uses current tax and accounting software applications when completing engagements.
  • Participates and becomes involved in professional associations and community activities.
  • Assists with business development efforts.
  • Researches technical tax issues.

Qualification Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Accounting or related field.
  • 4 years of experience preparing and/or reviewing individual and corporate tax returns and compiling financial statements.
  • Working toward passing CPA exam and/or getting license active.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills.
  • High level of organizational skills, focus and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Excel and Word.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6 years of similar experience working in a CPA firm.
  • Experience with ProSystems tax preparation software and QuickBooks
  • Customer-service oriented, demonstrated by the following attributes: proactive, observant, knowledgeable and reliable.
