Typical Day in the Life

A typical day as an Information Security Analyst will have you monitoring and responding to risks, incident, alerts, and events that could compromise the confidentiality, integrity, availability, or privacy of the firm’s information assets. In performing the following duties, you will collaborate with other members of the Information Technology Services (ITS) team, support the Information Security Director (ISD), and educate others to help mitigate information security risks to the firm:
  • Analyzing system-generated alerts and security events, identifying incidents, and chronologically documenting and reporting findings to the ISD
  • Evaluates the existing information governance program, develops frameworks and processes as necessary, integrates with business lines, and aligns with technology to improve efficiency and reduce risk of key business systems
  • Evaluates access and account management risks of key business systems, implementing and revising controls as necessary to improve effectiveness of the controls and reduce risk to key business systems
  • Evaluates, implements, and revises controls as necessary to prevent data exfiltration, mitigate the effects of exfiltrated data, and ensure the privacy and integrity of sensitive information
  • Establishes developmental plans necessary to build and strengthen personal security knowledge
  • Coordinates with the Information Security Manager and CIO to implement strategic plans and risk assessments for information governance
  • Works with other teams within ITS to respond to incidents and achieve the responsibilities outlined above


Who You Are
  • You hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree
  • Two or more (2+) years of experience in information security, privacy, system or network administration, or information technology/services support
  • CISSP, SANS, CISA, CRISC, and/or IGP certifications preferred
  • You possess working knowledge of information security concepts and methodologies, as well a practical understanding of security principles such as authentication, authorization, access control, assessment, protection, and incident response strategies
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines by setting priorities with work projects
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and clients
  • You are proficient with computers, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and related programs
