Position Description & Details: Post Doctorial Research Fellow

Responsibilities:

1. Coordinate and oversee a grant funded research project on mitigating the effects of increasing soil acidity in western North Dakota.
2. Oversee grant funded research on assessment of nitrogen immobilization and mineralization form common crop residues in no-till cropping systems.
3.Provide technical assistance to the NDSU Soil Testing Laboratory.
4. Assist in teaching Soil Chemistry and Soil and Plant Analysis classes and guest lecture in other soil science courses as needed

Work Schedule:

12 months, Monday-Friday business hours

Advertised Salary:

$42,000-$72,000/annually

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Ph. D. Degree within 6 month of start date in Soil Science, Environmental and Conservation Science, Natural Resources or related area.
2. Demonstrated ability and skills in GIS applications and use for developing soil, tillage and nutrient maps; skilled in use of laboratory equipment (pH/EC meters, colorimeters, AAS, materials digestion techniques, methods of plant and soil sample and materials processing)
3. Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas and information clearly in oral and written formats.
4. Ability to effectively interact with students, other faculty and farmers.
5. Demonstrated skills in planning, organizing and executing complex work tasks to ensure deliverables are completed within designated time frames.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience with soil tillage and soil management in a short growing season environment.
2. Experience with use of soil probes and augers, instillation of soil moisture and temperature monitoring sensors, data logger use and employment.
3. Experience in field measurements of crop residues, stand counts plant growth parameter measurements as well as soil and plant sampling techniques.
4. Experience with laboratory measurement of particulate organic matter, soil texture, soil salinity and pH, cation exchange capacity, lime requirement, SOM and SOC methodology, acid and base standardization, total and inorganic N determination, soil nutrient status (N, P, K, S, basic cations and micronutrients), gravimetric water content and field capacity determination.
5. Ability to effectively interact with and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
