The role reports to the Industrial Vice President, RMDR (Robotics & Motion division, Drives, and Controls business unit), and is located in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. As a Director, Marketing MODP (Motion - Drives Products) you will act as the primary architect and executor of Drives and Control's (MODP) marketing strategy to become the market leader in US drives and traction markets and provide leadership in the creation and ongoing development of a customer and market-focused culture. The Director, Marketing will also oversee the development and the maintenance of needed marketing infrastructure to support both current and future sales and marketing operations.

Your responsibilities

  • Develop a full grasp of MODP's strategic initiatives, products, and services to facilitate understanding of the role of sales and marketing in meeting the business's strategic goals.
  • Develop the overall marketing strategy for achieving targeted sales and profitability levels in the existing market & successfully penetrating and meeting sales growth and profit goals in targeted new markets.
  • Provide the necessary oversight to ensure that this overall strategic blueprint gets translated into concrete tactical action plans by all direct and indirect sales and marketing functions.
  • Ensure that the sales and marketing functions have the necessary support infrastructure (technology, systems, etc.) to support both current and planned sales and marketing activities.
  • Ensure that MODP engages in needed market research and market intelligence activities to identify and understand customer needs and preferences in existing and new markets, activities of competitors, and needed responses.
  • Distribution channel activity, changes, and potential opportunities to increase efficiency or add value to customers by utilizing new distribution methods.
  • Enhance MODP's brand awareness, price products, and services at levels that provide sufficient revenues to meet profit goals.
  • Provide the needed promotions /incentives, optimize the use of available multi-channel marketing methods, optimize opportunities to engage in cross-selling with both internal and external partners, and provide the sales force with the needed selling tools.
  • The business is using the appropriate mix of sales processes that match the needs and receptiveness of customers in varying market segments.
  • Needed cross-functional collaborations exist between the sales and marketing functions, and with other applicable BU or Divisional functions.
  • The sales and marketing force has and uses the needed competencies, knowledge, and skills to achieve both current sales targets and intended market growth.
  • Develops and implements strategies to provide needed learning and development activities to fill any gaps in existing capabilities. Compensation, incentive, and performance management systems support the use of desired behaviors.
  • Develops an overall plan for staffing needs to meet sales and marketing activities envisioned in the business's strategic and operational plans.
  • Ensure needed succession and recruiting planning occurs and the marketing functions are properly staffed.
  • Monitor progress against targeted strategic and operational goals, and oversee development in the implementation of needed correctives actions.
  • Identify strategic business partners and negotiate needed contracts with potential partner top-level executives.
  • Manage marketing functions' operating and capital expenditure budgets and acts as the business spokesperson and effectively represent MODP at a top level executive capacity in dealing with a wide variety of external contacts.


Your background

  • Bachelor degree in business or technical field with 10 or more years of progressive experience in sales, marketing, channel and distribution.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in United States.
  • Preferred: MBA.
  • Extensive experience with and in-depth knowledge of the US Industrial and commercial markets, preferably in the MODP space.
  • Strong leadership, sales management, and change management capabilities with a proven track record.
  • Strong sales modeling and execution capabilities with a proven track record to develop and maintain strong business relationships with key accounts, Sr. Executive level, etc.
  • Strong determination and relentless pursuit and execution of meeting sales goals and objectives.
