This is a 6-month contract position at 40 hours per week.

Description:

Mechanical Design Engineer

Responsible for updating technical drawings and documentation associated with the support and continued development of our Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) products.

Project tasks involve primarily developing & implementing updates to requirements, designs and specifications. Additional work assignments may include prototype development, verification testing, transfer to manufacturing, quality assurance, root cause analysis investigations, drawing remediation, and change orders.

The Successful Candidate:

  • Possesses strong technical and design capabilities with attention to details.
  • Thrives in multidisciplinary projects that require mechanical design, computer aided design and drafting, plastics design/assembly, and electro-mechanical engineering.
  • Applies a solid understanding of theories and practices to the development of engineering and design solutions.
  • Effectively and efficiently executes project tasks and assignments with accuracy and minimal supervision.
  • Uses expert level skills in Solidworks (modelling and creating drawings), and EPDM to create and update mechanical designs with complete drawing packages following the ASME Y14.5 standard.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively and efficiently complete assigned mechanical project tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Updates, creates and maintains design documentation that includes requirements and specifications, engineering reports, and clear, complete, and accurate detailed drawings for engineering and manufacturing purposes, incl dimensioned tol layouts.
  • Performs in-depth analyses and calculations incl structural and dimensional tolerance stack ups to ensure accurate work output.
  • Organizes and presents technical work and deliverables to project team. Oral and written communication is well planned, organized and has a clear logical flow.
  • As needed, develops solutions and approaches to complex problems using sound analysis-based engineering, and ensures successful integration of mechanical design elements into the overall system.
  • Performs troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving efforts related to field performance and manufacturing.

Skills:

  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent with SolidWorks 3D design software, simulation, and additionally ProE/Creo familiarity preferred.
  • Solid computer skills: email, documentation and collaboration tools: e.g. WebEx, Teams, Microsoft Office products, etc.
  • Self-directed, resourceful, and able to work on multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and documentation skills.
  • Very adept at grasping and solving complex problems using root-cause analysis techniques.
  • Expert knowledge of manufacturing processes including injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, casting and machining.
  • Strong knowledge of design processes including DFM and DFA.
  • Expert knowledge of good engineering drawing practices incl strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per the ASME Y14.5 standard.
  • Knowledgeable & experienced with analysis methods and tools like FEA.
  • Hands on creating, developing and testing designs from prototypes through production implementation.
  • Ability to objectively identify technical solutions and make sound and accurate design and drafting decisions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (Master's degree preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in product development and have production manufacturing experience.
  • Experience in electromechanical systems, and medical devices.
  • A proven track record of effectiveness in a fast-paced environment and creating quality / accurate work.
  • Extensive experience with design controls and change control management.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and other office productivity tools.
  • Clear and effective communication (written and oral) and presentation skills.
  • Expert level skill in Solidworks. Preferably also knowledgeable in Creo/Windchill.
  • Expert in geometric tolerancing and detail mechanical design.
  • Demonstrated experience working with external 3rd party contract manufacturers and component suppliers.
