Operations Manager Responsibilities

  • Coordinating transportation to ensure prompt and proper movement of shipments, arranging same-day deliveries whenever possible
  • Freight standards (yarding, loading, unloading and hauling). Analyzes freight standards to ensure accuracy.
  • Manage yard inventory counts/records ensuring accuracy; evaluate data and recommend action for shortages/surpluses, stock rotation and slow moving inventory.
  • Establish and revise company receiving/stock transfer protocols and work instructions/standard operating procedures as needed for department improvements.
  • Responding to customer inquiries and referring clients to the proper channels
  • Reviewing purchase orders and shipping documents to ensure accuracy, tracking and fixing errors
  • Communicate with suppliers, retailers and customers
  • Prepare accurate invoices
  • Provide management strategy and develop systems to meet inventory goals and support demand requirements.
  • Manages and develops reports for various distribution yard reporting needs.
  • Focus on leveraging all functional support groups to creatively optimize efficiency, insuring that customer commitments are kept while also insuring the implementation of distribution solutions that meet company financial, risk and growth objectives.
  • Works with sales department to develop and maintain a prioritized list of customer and market requirements including contract specified service parameters, min/max inventory levels and product labeling (where required)
  • Responds to customer inquiries regarding product selection, placement of orders, requests for prices and quotations, complaints and scheduling of deliveries and installations, and providing customer follow-ups.

Operations Manager Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2+ years' experience in customer service or logistics management
  • Ability to work with little supervision and track multiple processes in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations and ISO requirements
  • Ability to work with carriers, customers, sales force, and company personnel
  • Computer-savvy with a working knowledge of logistics software (ERP)
  • Outstanding organizational, coordination abilities, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to question from groups of Managers, clients, carriers, customers, and the general public
