Financial Controller

North Bay Companies is hiring for an experienced Controller to our accounting department to assist in the day to day operations of the accounting function, oversee various accounting project, and manage the financial aspect of the real estate assets.

The position will spend most of the time managing projects, auditing internal books and direct supervision of accounting team. This position will report directly to the President and work closely with owners and internal company departments. The correct candidate must have industry within the real estate industry.

The Controller position will consist of the following functions:

General Accounting

Direct financial strategy, planning, and forecasting

Expertise in financial analysis, modeling, and budgeting methodologies

Maintain development and construction general ledgers and financial statement for each entity

Review underlying loan and equity partnership document and apply proper accounting treatment to financial records

Oversee cash flow for all companies and construction projects

Book transaction such as settlement statements (purchases, sales, refinances)

Create waterfalls used to distribute all refinance/sales proceeds

Work with external vendors to create closing statements and critical documentation is loan closings

Monitor monthly bank reconciliations, financials reporting, inner-company transactions

Complete various accounting related projects

Arrange and prepare reconciliation and documentation for internal and external audits

Financial Reporting

Issue accurate financial statements and analysis in accordance with company calendars

Manage asset and investor reporting

Review and prepare necessary reconciliations to balance sheet and income statement

Manage debt schedule and ensure compliance with all loan covenants and reporting requirements

Perform budgeting and forecasting for revenue, expenses, and cash flow

Assist with liquidity modeling/strategy regarding all assets

Leadership

Provide daily guidance to accounting team, establish goals and priorities

Participate and contribute to the company's leadership team

Oversee all accounting operations including detailed year-end financial reconciliations and internal/ external audits

Ensure robust internal control environment and adequate process documentation as well as establish policy and process improvements

Effectively handle multiple projects with different priority levels

End of year preparation for all entities including working with CPA Firm for tax returns and K1 distribution

Qualities of the correct candidate:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business; MBA or CPA preferred

Minimum 10+ years of professional accounting experience with in-depth knowledge of GAAP

Minimum 5+ years of experience in Real Estate accounting industry

Minimum 3+ years of experience in a Controller or similar role

Work well in a fast pace environment and be driven to stay current in the industry

Meticulous attention to detail and strong follow-up skills

Time management skills including attention to deadline

Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively or independently, lead a team, and take direction easily

Demonstrate strong ethical boundaries and problem-solving skills

Have proven customer service experience

Have strong verbal and written communication skills

Computer proficiency (MS Office suite, SharePoint, QuickBooks, property management software)

About the position:

This is a full-time (benefit eligible) position with opportunities for growth. This position will require real estate expertise while managing a team, complete financial projects, and participate in day to day operation along with end of year tax reporting, role in real estate closings and bank refinancing.
