Job Summary

Under general supervision, purchases materials or equipment involving less complex items and lower dollar volume of expenditures than an upper level buyer. Obtains materials, equipment, services or supplies at lowest cost consistent with required quality, quantity and availability. Actively researches and develops new sources of supply and/or recommends possible substitute materials. When assigned commodities being managed by a Commodity Manager, this position will function as a supporting role with respect to sourcing and negotiation tasks.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Effectively manages expenditures to reduce the total cost of ownership of material acquisitions.
  2. Maintain SAP Material Master Data integrity for inventory planning and purchasing fields.
  3. Works effectively in all inventory, planning and purchasing screens in SAP.
  4. Manage purchasing and inventory planning of assigned commodities.
  5. Responsibility for maintaining inventory according to stated goals of levels and/or turns.
  6. Responsible for the processing of defective items for as needed depending upon assigned commodities.
  7. Responsible for the effective implementation of ECO's for items as needed depending upon assigned commodities.
  8. Solely responsible for maintaining satisfactory supplier metrics or jointly with Commodity Manager depending upon the assigned commodities.
  9. Estimated allocation of time and relative importance of activities between purchasing and inventory will vary depending upon assigned commodities.
  10. Create and implement new processes to reduce inventory and waste.
  11. Must work well with others.
  12. Follow all safety guidelines and report unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  13. Completes other assignments and special projects as requested.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Economics or similar
  • 1 - 3 year experience in Supply Chain Management.

Desired

  • ISM or APICS Certification.
  • Familiarity with ERP computer systems.
