Primary Responsibilities:

  • Works independently to determine mainframe z/VM and Linux guests software upgrade requirements to maintain all products at current and supported levels determined by the vendor(s)
  • Coordinates and schedules all major software upgrades between Mainframe Technical Services and Linux Redhat (Unix) support teams
  • Defines resource requirements in conjunction with other managers within Technical Services group to support software and hardware upgrade requirements
  • Develops and maintains standards for all z/VM and Linux software configurations
  • Performs Project Management for all major product upgrades to ensure mainframe stability and reliability objectives are sustained
  • Stays abreast of vendor software trends and product release schedules for the z/VM technology supporting Linux on the IBM mainframe
  • Manages multiple projects, develops detailed implementation plans and schedules, and prepares periodic status reports
  • Consults with management and technical staff on other related mainframe software and hardware initiatives
  • Ability to serve in 24x7 On-Call rotations

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years experience in z/VM running Linux instances
  • 3+ years experience with RHEL administration duties on zLinux
  • Experience with development and support of Linux guest cloning processes
  • Expertise in performance and capacity managed in z/VM environment to optimize utilization of processors and memory of Linux guests
  • If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Velocity performance monitoring tools
  • CA VM:Manager software suite
  • ODM Decision Center install and support
  • Experience with virtualization using KVM
  • Exposure to security threat vulnerability and remediation
  • Excellent communication skills, analytical ability, strong judgment, and systems management skills
  • Ability to work with clients, vendors and other Infrastructure Services functional areas
  • Excellent verbal & written skills
  • Work effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Effective coaching skills
  • Exhibit a collaborative style that promotes teamwork

Colorado Residents Only: The salary/hourly range for Colorado residents is $94,500 to $171,700.
