The Building and Grounds Maintenance laborer is responsible for the cleanliness of locker rooms, bathrooms, lobby, bleachers, hallways, and other assigned areas.Department: RecreationSupervisor: Recreation ManagerWage Range: $14.00 - $19.00Application Deadline: Open Until FilledTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: General maintenance including janitorial and related cleaning activities.Enforces building security procedures, including opening and closing the facility.Maintains tools and equipment used in daily operations.Assists in special events preparation.Attends regularly scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary.Effectively and respectfully communicates and interacts with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and customers.Performs physical and mental demands and work environment requirements for this position.Performs other related functions as assigned or apparent to achieve the goals and objectives of the Public Services Division.EQUIPMENT USED:This position uses a variety of equipment including, but not limited to ice edger, pool vacuum, ice resurfacer, small tools, floor scrubber, mops and brooms, vacuum, mowers and weed whips, trimmers, pickups, blower, and utilizes a wide variety of motorized, electric, and hand tools as well as vehicles. RequirementsREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of maintenance and janitorial procedures.Ability to use a variety of small hand tools.Ability to communicate with all different types of people.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Must be at least 18 years of age.Must possess a valid Minnesota Driver's License or the ability to obtain within thirty days of employment with the City.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Previous experience in the maintenance of parks or recreation facilities.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:Must possess a valid Driver's License or the ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of employment.Must successfully pass a criminal background check.Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.WORK SCHEDULE:Hours of work are structured to meet service demands, and the needs of the public served. Hours will vary each week. Evening and weekend hours required.WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position will work inside, outside, and uneven ground. This position may be exposed to the following: dust, dirt, fumes, gases, chemicals, and other substances, noise, moving objects, heat, cold, extreme cold, wetness, humidity, and marked changes in wetness/humidity. All mental and physical demands listed herein may not be conducted every day but may be conducted and not limited to 2-3 times per week. Activities that will occur continuously, more than 5 hours, are use of right foot, left foot and both feet at the same time, and talking. Activities that will occur frequently, 3 to 5 hours, are standing, walking, use of fingers and hands, handling, seeing with near vision, carrying up to 10 pounds, lifting up to 24 pounds, working with interruptions, and time management. Activities that occur occasionally, 1 to 3 hours, are bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, pushing, pulling, climbing staircases, reaching at and below shoulder level with the right, left and both shoulders and the same time, fine manipulating, hearing, seeing with far vision, depth perception, accommodation, color vision, and field of vision/peripheral vision, carrying and lifting up to 50 pounds, organization skills, and concentration. Activities that occur infrequently, up to 60 minutes, are: crawling, kneeling, twisting, climbing heights, reaching above shoulder with the right, left and both shoulders at the same time, sense out touch, smelling, carrying, lifting over 75 pounds, problem-solving, analytical abilities verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and creativity.
