South Dakota State University Department of Animal Science is offering an exciting career opportunity as an Assistant Professor-Extension Specialist-Feedlot Management. The Department of Animal Science, College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at South Dakota State University is expanding its Extension program by adding an Assistant Professor-Extension Specialist-Feedlot Management. We are looking for a creative and innovative professional to join us in the Animal Science Department. This is a 9 month, full-time, benefit eligible, tenure-track position. This position is supervised by the Department Head of Animal Science. SDSU is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to and/or coordinate Extension programming that address the experiences of underrepresented minorities in organizations. Women, minorities, veterans, and people with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply. RESPONSIBILITIES: This position consists of 80% Extension and 20% research responsibilities. The successful candidate will be responsible to develop a dynamic Extension program and a complimentary applied research program in beef nutrition and feedlot management. The successful candidate will provide educational leadership to a growing beef feedlot industry in South Dakota. This individual will provide leadership for the transfer of information and technologies to Extension Field Specialists, South Dakota beef backgrounders and feedlot operators. This faculty member will work cooperatively with other Extension Specialists to develop effective, interdisciplinary training and clientele programs. The incumbent will be expected to utilize a variety of delivery techniques including the SDSU Extension web portal, distance educational technologies, traditional meetings, individual consultations, and intensive short courses. This individual's research program should focus on applied beef feedlot nutrition and management systems. Successful grantsmanship and participation in multidisciplinary and multi-state activities is expected. The successful applicant will recruit and train quality graduate students. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: ??? Sponsorship is not available for this position; must be eligible to work in the United States. ??? Current employee of South Dakota State University. ??? Ph.D. in animal science or a closely related field with an emphasis in beef feedlot nutrition and management, or closely related field, successfully completed by the appointment date. ??? An in-depth knowledge of the beef feedlot industry and experience in feedlot management. ??? Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. ??? Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: ??? Experience in delivering educational programs via the Internet and other distance education technology. ??? Post-doctoral or equivalent research or Extension experience. ??? Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with faculty and/or industry to develop collaborative research programs. ??? Extension programming experience.
