The Vice President of Business Development, Gene Therapy Stop Loss Insurance within the OptumRx Growth team will be responsible for driving growth of Optum's new Gene Therapy Risk Protection, a risk-bearing stop-loss insurance product for gene therapy. This product is designed to ensure patients have appropriate access to these potentially life-changing gene therapies, while helping plan sponsors manage the financial risk posed by the high cost of these treatments.

The Vice President of Business Development, Gene Therapy Stop Loss Insurance will manage new sales for this Gene Therapy Risk Protection product, developing and executing on strategies to achieve sales targets. This individual will sell the product directly to OptumRx clients and prospects, including self-funded employer plan sponsors as well as in partnership with our health plan clients, including UnitedHealth Care, to their self-funded employer clients. The Vice President will partner closely with OptumRx Client Management on sales strategies for existing OptumRx clients, leveraging their client relationships to successfully position the product.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Effectively articulate the Optum's Gene Therapy stop loss value proposition and strategy to prospective clients to achieve sales goals
  • Develop and maintain extensive, up-to-date knowledge of the gene therapy market and Optum's stop loss product
  • Establish and execute sales process in close partnership with OptumRx client management
  • Manage pipeline of new sales opportunities; prioritize opportunities, develop sales plans, monitor progress and adjust direction in order to continuously optimize sales performance
  • Build and maintain a positive, collaborative working relationship with internal stakeholders (including account executives, clinical consultants, underwriting) and key client stakeholders
  • Consistently monitor the competitive landscape and utilize market knowledge to identify and validate key market trends, optimize sales strategy and uncover new opportunities

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years selling complex insurance products
  • A license to sell health insurance in at least one state, with ability to obtain licensure in additional states within 60 days of hire
  • Deep product knowledge of Stop Loss Insurance
  • Demonstrated ability to meet aggressive sales targets
  • Strong interpersonal/relationship development skills
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills; ability to deliver formal presentations as well as lead strategic sales discussions
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Willingness to travel as required once able (50%+ travel required)

Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience selling insurance products directly to health plans and/or employer plan sponsors
  • Pharmacy or other clinical degree
  • Experience partnering with benefits consultants

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $70,000 to $140,000. Role is also eligible to receive bonuses based on sales performance.
