What You Will Be Doing
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing heavy civil and federal construction projects and a willingness to travel to various job sites throughout the US. Prior experience bidding federal work REQUIRED. The GM will oversee: preconstruction planning, design development, plan reviews, constructability reviews, subcontractor coverage, bid schedules, permit procurement, scope coverage, staffing requirements and general conditions. Additional leadership responsibilities will include:
- Providing President with regular updates on progress towards meeting divisional goals
- Working directly with BD team to actively promote the company and identify bid opportunities
- Managing the proposal process including estimating, preparation, graphics, and presentations
- Overseeing the direction, supervision and coordination of the Construction Project Managers and Construction Superintendents
- Assisting the President and Risk Manager with management of claims
- Making periodic jobsite visits to view and discuss project progress
- Managing the design-build process (schematic design, design-development, IFC drawings)
- Preparing P&L cost projections and reviewing with executive leadership
- Preparing project metrics related to labor productivity versus project costs
- Helping to enforce site specific safety plans
5-10 years of relevant heavy civil/federal project management and operations experience and:
- Bachelors Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related discipline
- Intimate knowledge and experience working within the heavy civil/governmental disciplines (preconstruction through close-out)
- Proven track record of successfully completed projects
- Prior experience with P&L/financial reporting
- Ability to manage multiple active projects simultaneously
- Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders
- Ability to travel domestically (up to 50%)
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite
- Working of knowledge of estimating, job cost, accounting and scheduling software
