Position Purpose:

To repair track, switch and structure deviations in a safe manner. Take part in construction and rehab of seasonal projects. Operate equipment, when necessary, in a safe and efficient manner with minimal supervision.

Principal Accountabilities:

· To repair track and switch deviations in accordance to FRA specifications as directed by the Foreman · Operate significant railroad equipment, such as boom truck, speed swing, automatic tamper, regulator, bolt machine, plow, etc. in a safe efficient manner. · To maintain equipment on a daily basis to minimize down time and be responsible for proper care of railroad property, tools and vehicles. · Assist maintenance of way forces when not working on equipment. · To be familiar and comply with FRA and General Code of Operating rules and On Track Safety regulations · To be responsible for proper care of railroad property, such as company vehicles, tools and materials · Operate equipment such as grinders, drills and other track machinery as needed in a safe and efficient manner · Promote safety in accordance with FRA and RRVW rules, regulations, policies and practices · To be vigilant of track and structures observing conditions which may impact the safety or condition of railroad property Basic

Qualifications:

· Education equivalent to high school graduate · Prior railroad experience is preferable but not required · Must be safety oriented · Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable to drive company vehicles · Must maintain a Class A CDL when required · Must pass FRA, General Code of Operating Rules and On-Track Safety examinations · Position subject to random drug and alcohol testing

Physical Requirements:

· Position subject to traveling. Responsible for personal transportation to and from base work location (hotel) at the start and end of each week · Must have physical strength and stamina to work rigorously in the outdoors · Physical requirements include considerable amounts of bending, twisting, lifting, walking and working on uneven terrain, climbing on to and around equipment, throwing switches · Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 lbs, occasionally lift up to 100 lbs · Frequently in and out of hi-rail truck during course of workday. When truck is on rail, may be an additional 10” of height to step on to running board to enter truck from ballast roadbed area · Strength needed to throw a switch – 50+ lbs · Must be able to operate claw bar, lining bars, track wrenches, etc. to apply leverage · Must be able to shovel ballast and snow · Must be able to swing 12 lb maul to pound track materials including track spikes, anchors, etc.
