Job Summary
The RN Patient Care Supervisor reports directly to the unit manager. Functions as a resource to the Patient Care Coordinators, staff and physicians involved in the care of department's patients. The Supervisor works closely with leaders to align goals and priorities. The Supervisor collaborates with the physician and care team to coordinate the execution of protocols and Evidence-Based Practice to facilitate the best care for our patients. Provides direct patient care as needed and to stay current. Also assists with quality improvement projects, coaching staff to reach department goals, staff performance reviews, and staff education.
Essential Job Functions
Assigns or delegates, within the scope of practice, education and experience, the responsibility for performance of nursing interventions to other persons for which that person has the necessary skills and competence to accomplish safely.
Demonstrates competency in Registered Nurse functions including developing a plan of care, assessing the patient's condition, pain assessments and appropriate action, monitoring patient's condition, reporting observations, communicating/educating patient/other significant individuals, and discharge planning.
Performs daily rounds on all patients assuring quality customer service by coordinating and taking action on any requirements not met.
Advises leadership of significant and/or unexpected variances. Demonstrates an understanding of the budget and assists leadership in keeping within fiscal parameters. Assists leadership in requests for capital expenditures.
Participates in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and job descriptions. Serves as a resource for staff and physicians regarding policies, procedures, and practices. Carries out the hiring process for Manager-approved positions. Provides information and makes recommendations to the Manager on disciplinary action and separation related decisions. Promotes continuous staff participation in the performance review process.
Completes reporting and record keeping requirements accurately and within established timelines. Monitors services for efficiency and accuracy by evaluating, initiating and participating in restructuring of current and new procedures, services, and/or programs.
Carries out time and attendance responsibilities according to established procedure. Coordinates staffing and scheduling duties in accordance with established procedure and practices.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
License, Certification & Education
North Dakota RN - Required
Minnesota RN - Required within 6 Months
Basic Life Support - Required within 2 Months
Bachelor's in Nursing - Preferred
