Position Information

Clinical Supervisor Graduate Assistantship

The Clinical Supervisor will be primarily responsible for the following duties in support of the NDSU Ph.D. Counselor Education and Supervision program. The Clinical Supervisor will report to the faculty member coordinating the NDSU Community Counseling Services clinic.

Clinical Supervisor Duties

  • Meet with Clinic Director at least once per week to discuss overall administration and supervision of the clinic, congruent with CACREP standards.
  • Provide on-site evening supervision (e.g., 4:00pm to 8:00pm) of the the clinic at least three nights per week (or as negotiated)
  • Teach one section of CNED 794A: Practicum each semester, including individual supervision per CACREP standards (e.g., midterm and final evaluations).
  • Maintain up-to-date supervision records.
  • Provide crisis management and response as needed.
  • Collaborate with Clinic Director and Clinic Office Manager on policies, procedures, and overall clinic management.
  • Monitor students' progress and dispositions and alert faculty of any concerns.
  • Monitor client caseload and client assignments.
  • Assist with special events such as information sessions and new practicum student orientation.
  • Regularly update faculty and clinical students on any changes or important announcements.


Requirements

Enrolled doctoral student in the NDSU Counselor Education and Supervision program in good academic standing, which must be maintained through the assistantship. Successful completion or concurrent enrollment of CNED 870 Counselor Supervision. Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in North Dakota required.

Excellent supervision, teaching, crisis response, and communication skills. Must demonstrate ability to work with the public and to perform under stressful situations. Must be able to follow clinic protocols.

Hours

The Clinical Supervisor works 20 hours per week during the fall semester and spring semester. The scheduled work hours may include any or all of the following teach one section of CNED 794A Counseling Practicum, provide individual supervision for up to six students, and provide evening supervision of the clinic (e.g., 4:00pm to 8:00pm) as determined..

Compensation

This is a Graduate Assistant position. The Clinical Supervisor will be compensated by tuition remission for appropriated courses and a monthly stipend ($1,200). The compensation will be treated as taxable income, and taxes will be due on the tuition equivalent.

Term of Employment

This position begins August 23, 2021 and ends May 18, 2022.

Assistantship appointments may vary in length and are contingent upon the availability of funding. Terms on duties and responsibilities will be provided on the graduate assistantship contract.
  • Students must be registered for graduate credit each semester (fall and spring) they receive an assistantship and must be in good academic standing and maintaining satisfactory progress toward their degree. In addition, international students must maintain the appropriate residency status.
  • Teaching assistants whose native language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency (refer to section titled "English Language Proficiency Procedures for Graduate Teaching Assistants").
  • Students offered a graduate teaching or graduate service assistantship must consent to a criminal background check. This includes graduate researchers teaching in a lab.
  • Students placed on Academic Warning may retain their assistantship. Students placed on Probation may no longer receive an assistantship.
  • Required annual training must be completed within 30 days of start date and yearly thereafter.
