Assignment Editor

West Central Tribune is seeking an assignment editor for our features sections focusing on audience-driven content. This position is responsible for coordinating print and digital content for our weekly Showcase and Extra sections. We publish audience-focused content in print, online, e-paper, section and magazine formats.

As an assignment editor, you will oversee a designated area of community coverage, such as news, business, features or sports, delivering timely content to a targeted audience on all relevant publishing platforms, with an emphasis on digital.

Additional areas of responsibility include:

• Work directly with reporters on the overall direction of story assignments and scheduling of content, with a priority on digital publishing.
• Edit content for all publishing platforms; reviews for accuracy, style, appropriateness and length; write headlines and offer up additional digital publishing assets as needed.
• Publish content to digital platforms in a timely manner, using data and metrics to help guide strategic timing and placement of content.
• Contribute to the overall newsroom management and editing needs; participating in both daily meetings and in planning or brainstorming meetings.
• Supervise employees within the department, establish schedules, conduct performance reviews, interview, hire, train, conduct performance reviews and connect employees with training.
• Write stories and columns as needed.
• Read, evaluate and edit news releases and community-submitted material for publication.
• Lead newsroom and/or content-related projects as needed.
• Occasional weekend newsdesk coverage.
