Manage and support the efforts of the Quality Engineering Group (QEs) to ensure the Integrated Project Team (IPT) meets the project goals of delivery, costs and quality. Promote the QEs to champion the deployment of superior processes in lieu of traditional inspection activities, provide tools and data to support sound and timely decisions and establish QE ownership of all quality related impediments to project success.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support the efforts of the Quality Engineering group by:
    • Continuing to define the Quality Engineer's role and support of the IPT
    • Teaming with other functional manager peers to support Operational and Project goals and deliverables
    • Training and Mentoring the Quality Engineering Group
    • Promoting the training and mentoring of the Project Quality Inspectors by the Quality Engineering Group
    • Leading cost avoidance efforts in support of the IPT and the Site
    • Providing the IPT with appropriate Non Conformance source data and leading IPT NC activities
    • Ensuring QE coordination with customers and suppliers during early planning phases of development, through production and final product delivery programs
  • Maintain the role of Quality Engineer on a minimum of one significant project.
  • Direct, monitor, and appraise the performance of the Quality Engineering Group, identifies training and educational needs and initiates development.
  • Distribute, and as appropriate, re-distribute IPT duties within the Quality Engineering Group
  • Recommend and/or approve all salary and staffing changes
  • Identify and justify capital equipment and/or technology improvements
  • Use data to drive improvement through disciplined metrics management and team projects
  • Ensure the QE develops a Quality plan based on the contract requirements and contract deliverables
  • Manage direct and indirect budgets and group expenses including the Quality Engineering portions of the EAC and ETC budgets.
  • Develop and review Quality Engineering cost estimates in support of proposal efforts
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the values and culture of the organization

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical field with a minimum of 7 years of experience
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in the role of a Project Quality Engineer, preferably manufacturing technically complex, low volume military or government products.
  • Experience with performance management of direct and/or indirect reports
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication and writing skills
  • Ability to lead effective corrective action using disciplined problem solving methods and statistical analysis
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO 9 Standards
  • 6 Sigma Black Belt certification desired
  • ASQ certification desired
  • Must be a US Citizen
