Job Summary

The Engineering Manager is responsible for all phases of engineering development for our DICKEY-john value stream and strives to drive positive growth in the organization. This role requires leadership in executing projects under a multidisciplinary model - Product Management, Engineering, Service, Manufacturing and Supply Chain. The Engineering Manager works with the value stream Business Director, VP Engineering and other senior managers to meet product development objectives. This requires a demonstrated ability to lead people and manage projects to meet cost, schedule, performance, and quality objectives.

Customers look to DICKEY-john for market-leading monitors, controllers, moisture testers, ground speed sensors, and a variety of other systems used in agricultural, public works, and analytical markets. Customers range from individual farmers to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). No matter what the size, the expectations are the same: a cost-effective, technologically advanced, precision product. This level of performance makes DICKEY-john products the standard equipment for the largest OEMs in the industry.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Works closely with Business Directors to develop and manages a product development roadmap and supporting resource plan. Ensures that development schedules are both achievable and aggressive.
  2. Reviews business plans, product requirements, verification/validation plans, and other key deliverables for development projects. Ensures that development teams incorporate extensive customer feedback throughout the entire design cycle.
  3. Reviews technical aspects of projects including system architecture.
  4. Drives project teams towards meeting established commitments on milestones, budget, and release dates. Ensures that product quality, performance, and margin goals are met.
  5. Works with Business Directors and technical leads to estimate product development requests and establish development priorities.
  6. Ensures that established new product development (NPD) process is followed. Supports compliance audits as necessary.
  7. Communicates status of active development projects to company stakeholders. Ensures that project management methods are followed and project metrics are maintained.
  8. Looks for ways to minimize design cycles and development cost through standard platforms and components.
  9. Leverages past experience and strong communication skills to collaborate closely with marketing, regulatory, quality, supply chain, and operations to meet ambitious project development timelines.
  10. Acts as a mentor to technical staff, especially System Engineers and supervisors.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Engineering Manager supervises a multi-disciplinary team of 20 engineers and advises the VP of Engineering on hiring, promotion, training, and termination decisions for the functional group. The Engineering Manager writes performance reviews and goals and objectives for all direct reports and plans for staff career development.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Firmware Engineering is required
  • Master's Degree in any engineering field or MBA is desired.
  • Minimum of 15 years of engineering experience in developing a new product development from concept into commercialization.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisor/management experience in a managing a multi-disclipinary engineer team is required.
  • Proficient in MS Office software tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability, Design of Experiments, Design for Six Sigma, Lean Design and FMEA are desired.
