Staff Accountant

Robert Half is seeking candidates for a full-time Staff Accountant position, which will become a critical part of an innovative Construction company in the Madison area. We're looking for people who are driven by a challenging work environment with many components. The Staff Accountant will prepare journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliations, fixed asset maintenance, and general ledger reconciliations. This role is for someone who wants to perform internal reporting during monthly close, participate in compliance, and interact with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented and analytical thinker with solid transactional accounting experience.

What you get to do every day:

• Regularly maintain and reconcile journal entries
• Maintain, implement, and adhere to internal controls while ensuring that accounting procedures comply with GAAP
• Prepare monthly financial close workbooks to support the month end, quarter end and year end closing process
• Impromptu reporting and special projects, when requested
• Compose analyses for income statements and monthly balance sheets for management reporting
• Monitor for sales tax, exempt sales tax charges and use tax calculations

• Associates and/or a Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required
• 3 years of previous Accounting experience is required
• Construction industry experience preferred
• Experience working with a variety of accounting functions such as AP/AR and Payroll
• Advanced understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Familiarity with sales tax
