Position Information

Position Description & Details:

Upward Bound Summer instructors will provide instruction for the UB Summer Program in Math or English, working with middle-school and high-school aged program participants.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in planning course work and instruction to meet the criteria for the Upward Bound Summer Component
  • Develop and maintain class lesson plans
  • Develop and implement class evaluation tools
  • Provide weekly feedback on student progress during the summer component and share concerns during weekly teacher meeting.
  • At the end of the summer program, provide the UB Director with a summer progress report
  • Monitor, record and report student daily attendance and effort rating scores
  • Maintain a controlled and quiet classroom environment conducive to learning. Enforce UB consequences for students who do not abide by class rules
  • Instill in students the idea of being respectful in class

Work Schedule:

5-10 hours a week in April and May
16-20 hrs a week during summer program

Advertised Salary:

$14-20/hr

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Teaching experience with college or high school aged students
  • Experience developing and delivering curriculum
  • Experience working with youth

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional teaching experience
  • Experience working with low-income and/or future first-generation college students
  • Experience working with English language learners
  • Experience in collaborative and cross-disciplinary activities
  • Experience in a TRIO Program
