Three years of related professional work experience in career services, student affairs, or a closely related field. (Candidates who are otherwise qualified who have 1-3 years of experience will also be considered.) Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competence, and achievement in working with diverse student populations. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Proven ability to work collaboratively with faculty, student affairs educators, and students. Demonstrated commitment to the land-grant mission of the University of Minnesota Crookston, especially as related to access and student success. Final job offer is contingent upon a completed background check, receipt of official college transcripts and authorization to work in the United States. Preferred Qualifications: Three years of experience specifically in career services providing education to college students with diverse identities including first-generation college students; students of various racial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds; students from low-income families; students from rural communities; LGBTQ students; and non-traditional adult learners. Proficiency in a second language, preferably Spanish. About the Job Position: Full-time, ten-month student affairs educator position at the Crookston campus of the University of Minnesota starting in August, 2020. Anticipated salary range of $46,000-56,000, commensurate with educational qualifications and experience. A competitive fringe benefits package is offered. Responsibilities:Reporting to the Director of Student Success, the Career Services Coordinator will support the mission of the University of Minnesota Crookston by assisting students to prepare for a global market by identifying possible areas of growth related to diversity, communication skills, interviewing skills, social media engagement, appropriate materials such as resumes and cover letters, as well as the job/graduate school search process. The Coordinator will also design and implement career exploration and career development activities in collaboration with academic and faculty advisors, student affairs educators, and first-year seminar and experience programs. The Career Services Coordinator is responsive to UMN Crookston's strategic initiatives in the areas of enrollment growth; promoting diversity, equity, and belonging; and enhancing Golden Eagle pride and engagement. Leadership (10%) Demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and belonging by creating and establishing practices that are appropriate for students' individual needs and identities. Acknowledge the specific and particular realities of students of color, LGBTQ individuals, and other minoritized communities within Northwest Minnesota while also connecting communities to local and regional experiences in order to foster a greater sense of belonging. While honoring and lifting up the unique experiences of various minoritized groups, generate mutual solidarity among historically underrepresented populations including but not limited to various racial and ethnic groups, first-generation college students, students from rural and agrarian communities, students from low-income families, LGBTQ students, students with disabilities, and religious minorities. Assist with planning, facilitating, and assessing anti-racism, equity, and inclusion professional development experiences on campus. Remain current and involved with comprehensive student affairs professional associations and emerging trends in the field. Career Services Coordination (70%) Demonstrate self-awareness of one's own cultural beliefs, perspectives, and privileges as a part of career counseling and education for all students in a fair, caring, and non-discriminatory manner. Demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by creating and establishing career center policies and practices that are appropriate for students' individual needs and identities. Apply strong interpersonal techniques including active listening, empathetic responses, and questioning through in-person and virtual interactions to develop trusting relationships with students in order to promote their sense of belonging to campus. Critically apply various student development theories and advising practices to assess readiness, then appropriately challenge, and support students with diverse assets, needs, backgrounds, and talents to make informed decisions about personal, academic, and career goals. Create and utilize a network of relationships with faculty, and student affairs educators to effectively deliver support services. Plan, design, and present individual and group instruction on cover letters, resumes, interview preparation for internships and career search programs and workshops. Plan on-campus internship and job fairs and coordinate student travel to (when necessary) and engagement in off-campus internship and job fairs. Conduct assessments to determine training, educational, career, and personal needs, including reviewing career assessments, work history, and college transcripts, and refers students facing barriers to their success to the appropriate resources on and off campus. Offer individual instruction to students on career decision-making and selecting a major. Develop and implement networking opportunities for students. Stay current on career services trends and labor market information; maintain up-to-date career information and resources. Plan and coordinate visits to and from graduate degree-granting universities and employers. Develop, coordinate, facilitate, and advertise multiple advising and career services events, and responds to feedback for improvements. Utilize technology to facilitate virtual career coaching services. In collaboration with the Office of Financial (for work-study), manage the student employment process for on-campus students, including ensuring the website is up to date and students are aware of employment opportunities. Create and utilize a network of relationships with on-campus and off-campus partners to deliver career services effectively. Inform and advise students, staff, businesses, government, faculty advisors, and community partners regarding educational offerings, degree requirements, career information, and community resources. Recommend program policies and coursework to meet student and community needs. Articulate the value-added of a four-year education to businesses and communities in an effort to increase partnerships for internships and careers for students. General Programming and Initiatives (20%) Participate in the planning and implementation of initiatives, workshops, orientations, and other programs. Offer new, creative, and innovative approaches and practices to deliver educational programs and support including the use of group modalities. Make referrals to appropriate campus services or community agencies and assist students in assuming the role of self-advocates. Provide input on the development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of DRC systems and processes. Contribute toward program development and evaluation metrics.
