St. Mary’s Mission has been a steadfast beacon of hope, faith, and love for thousands of impoverished people of the Red Lake Indian Nation since 1888. Our mission includes providing a Catholic education grounded in Ojibwe culture for pre-school through the 8th grade. St. Mary’s relies on the generous gifts of individual, corporate and foundation donors as well as grants.
Reporting to the Business Manager, the Development Assistant will support fundraising and donor engagement strategies with a focus on database management, gift processing, reporting and prospect management. Specific responsibilities are described below.
Donor Database Management
Lead user of and trainer of donor database who ensures information integrity; must have a working knowledge of various database modules and key reporting functions.
Manages required data functions, including gift processing and gift acknowledgment on a timely basis, getting acknowledgment letters mailed within 2-3 business days.
Regularly manages updates to the database and constant contact mailing lists to ensure all contacts are moved through the development process and coded appropriately.
Coordinates information sharing with outside development contractors and provides tracking information for all processed gifts to ensure financial accountability.
Contributes to the effective cultivation and stewardship of new and existing relationships with donors at all gift levels through clear, polite communication, thank you calls and notes along with timely follow-up on requests or queries.
Manages the Mission’s website and serves primary e-mail contact for inquiries.
Coordinates production and distribution of donor communications such as periodic newsletters.
Helps develop and manage donor events, tours, and engagement activities with Mission staff.
Help update or create PowerPoint and presentation materials.
Manages the grant calendar, coordinates with grant writers and provide grant tracking.
Coordinates with online giving platforms such as GiveMN.
Assists with the successful implementation of special events such the annual gala.
Provides project management support and scheduling for all grant proposals and report deadlines.
Other duties as assigned by the Business Manager.
This position would be located at the offices of St. Mary's Mission in Red Lake. The position may be eligible for remote work depending on qualifications and experience.
Development Assistant Qualifications
One to two years of experience in one or more of the following areas: fundraising - especially development; event planning; direct mail marketing; donor stewardship; client management or business development.
Experience using CRM databases such as Donor Perfect or Raiser’s Edge preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Creative thinker who meets challenges with innovation and resourcefulness
Ability to execute a variety of responsibilities with accuracy and attention to detail
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, grammar and proofreading abilities
Access to reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and car insurance
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
