Description

The Office of Academic Advisement provides quality academic advising for all undergraduate students (current, transfers, readmitted students) pursuing a major in the Nistler College of Business and Public Administration (NCoBPA). Students will have the opportunity to learn about NCoBPA course requirements, discuss and review the degree programs and set up a four-year academic plan. The advisors can assist in questions on degree programs, graduation requirements, internship opportunities, student organizations, scholarships, and graduation requirements. The purpose of the position is to provide undergraduate academic advisement for all NCoBPA students (majors and minors).

This position will work very closely with our current students on a walk in basis and scheduled meetings. Primary duties include all advising-related matters for current and potential students and responsibility for graduation audits. They will meet with prospective high school students as well as prospective transfer students. This position will be responsible working with academic probation students as well as working with UND retention issues. This person will utilize campus connection, degree map, perceptive content, and starfish. Other duties include assist with the advisor portion of the summer orientation program and attend graduation ceremonies.

Duties & Responsibilities

General Advising

  • Serve as an academic advisor to all business students.
  • Meet with students and be available for walk-ins at the NCoBPA Advising Center
  • Work with transfer and international students
  • Audit student records for completion of major requirements
  • Prepare student class schedules, registration processes and petitions
  • Refer students to internship coordinators and career advisor
  • Provide guidance for new incoming transfer students
  • Maintenance of student and office records
  • Build and maintain relationships with prospective students
  • Participation in recruiting events
  • Use required university technology to advise all students
  • Communicate university policies and procedures to students as needed.
  • Respond to telephone and email inquiries regarding the business program and procedures.
  • Assist with summer orientation program

Service

  • Working with summer orientation program
  • Communicate regularly with NCoBPA faculty and staff, and university committee
  • Represent college at commencement ceremonies
  • Serve on college/university committees as assigned

Transfer Student/Transition

  • Provide initial advisement for transfer students and prospective transfer students
  • Organize events for transfer students
  • Work with UND transfer coordinator on two plus two agreements
  • Work with departments for syllabi review

Professional Development

  • Have knowledge and be able to communicate university policies and procedures
  • Have knowledge of all UND academic offerings
  • Refer students to campus and community resources
  • Attend and participate in college and campus-wide advising events and outreach
  • Attend conferences and meetings related to advising

Required Competencies

  • Demonstrated experience working with student or employee development

  • Experience providing feedback in a productive, positive manner

  • Excellent communication and social skills to interact effectively with diverse audiences

  • Proven experience serving diverse populations

  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and environments in a positive manner

  • Proven experience with effective teamwork and collaboration

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field

  • Experience with basic software programs including Microsoft Office Suite

  • Submission of a cover letter

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Academic Advising
  • Experience in using advising tools e.g. Star Fish, Degree Map, and Campus Connection)
  • Clear understanding of UND’s undergraduate programs including essential studies

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$44,000/annual, Full-time, Benefited

Work Schedule/Start Date

Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
