As part of our OptumCare Technology team, the Director of Product Management will play a crucial role to drive clinical capability direction and leadership in accordance with clinical transformation efforts and align project resources, assignments, oversight and coordination of efforts to support the successful implementation of capabilities and operations of systems. The ideal candidate will work with all levels of the business, and IT partners to ensure product deliverables align with clinical product requirements, delivering key clinical capabilities, plus monitor for continuous quality improvement opportunities directed toward achievement of clinical and healthcare outcomes. A keen attention to detail, curiosity, problem-solving abilities, and direct experience with common tools and practices in business analytics and product management domains is essential. Experience in the healthcare IT sector, use of popular product management platform(s), and direction of agile development teams is highly desirable.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead with empathy to form strong relationships with co-workers, peers, leaders, and customers
  • Take all necessary steps to remain current on end user needs, market trends, healthcare and policy changes as appropriate to support the strategic initiatives of OptumCare business partners and associated care delivery organizations
  • Align business strategy and action via processes, models, and metrics to ensure that business functions are working to attain the OptumCare's strategic vision and goals
  • Create and maintain cohesive models, capability blueprints and roadmaps and communicate to executives and stakeholders to ensure consensus on proposed capabilities and business/technology implications
  • Document and present conceptual views depicting critical business needs and decision points; Identify principles to guide decision making on conceptual business / technology approaches
  • Identify capability gaps and facilitate examination of opportunity costs, benefits, dependencies and proposed action plans/strategies
  • Ensure strategic intent and impacts on supporting capabilities are mutually understood by the business and IT
  • Work directly with business leadership and technical leaders to identify and instrument business processes around the development of agile programs
  • Lead a collaborative effort to ideate, design and implement dashboards to help articulate a point of view around how value is planned, is in-progress of delivery, and enabled through a series of well-organized and intuitive visual dashboards to support tech and business leaders
  • Responsible for building, maintaining and owning the product roadmap for your assigned domains
  • Responsible for planning, preparing, and executing regular meetings with key stakeholders to ensure good alignment with organizational goals and objectives
  • Responsible for creating and managing your team's backlog in Aha! and CA-Agile including business goals, initiatives, capabilities, features, and user stories
  • Monitor capability metrics and develop ways to improve visibility and accountability through instrumentation
  • Provide regular demonstrations of your team's work in the product, capability itself
  • Work to continuously improve governance, documentation, and development processes for best outcomes
  • Consistently communicate verbally and non-verbally in a manner that demonstrates a positive and cooperative attitude
  • Manage effective communication regarding the status and impact of information technology and systems implementations and evaluate internal communication for effectiveness and consistency of shared information
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets to ensure the efficient use of resources and assets
  • Provide leadership to and is accountable for the performance of managers and /or senior level professional staff

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience (4 additional years of comparable work experience beyond the required years below may be substituted in lieu of Bachelor's Degree)
  • 8+ years of responsibility with product / capability management, support management, operations or IT background
  • Demonstrated experience with business intelligence, metrics reports and/or dashboard development
  • Proficient with Product management and portfolio tools such as Aha! (or comparable???)
  • Experience with Agile software development tools such as Rally or JIRA
  • Understanding and application of Agile concepts such as Scrum / Kanban / SAFe, and agile methodologies
  • Up-to-date on latest product / capability management trends
  • If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Related management experience inclusive of employee supervision and development, budget oversight and strategic planning
  • Related experience in a healthcare operating environment

  • Experience with Vendor, Change and Release Management Best Practices
  • Knowledge and use of web-based application design strategies
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication, able to effectively communicate with senior leadership
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Culturally and self-aware of strengths and opportunities to improve

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $110,200 to $211,700.
