WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

AET's Building Technology group has an opening for an Engineer I. This team focuses on structural evaluation, building enclosure design, and restoration projects. This entry-level Civil/Structural Engineer will work with experienced Engineers, Architects, and Technicians to assess and design building enclosures/building envelope (roofs, waterproofing, masonry, window and curtain wall systems, etc.) The Engineer I can work towards PE licensure under the direction of an experienced Structural Engineer.

IN THIS JOB, YOU WILL:

  • Conduct field documentation of existing structures, building components, or construction materials, including condition survey/evaluation, material sampling/testing, structural evaluation/analysis, and vibration/noise monitoring.
  • Work with senior structural designer to modify, repair and rehabilitate the structural systems within existing and historic buildings.
  • Coordinate with project manager for ongoing projects and interface with associates to schedule laboratory and field-testing activities.
  • Develop an understanding of current construction and design codes, to ensure all designs meet code-mandated requirements in Minnesota and surrounding states.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Architectural or Construction Engineering.
  • 0-3 years of related experience. Experience with quality control testing of construction materials or structural design is preferred. If no experience in that area, the engineer will be expected to train for a period of time in the materials lab.
  • FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) certificate preferred.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting data, accurately observing and recording field activities, reading plans, blueprints, and specifications as related to the position.
  • An understanding of structural engineering principles and materials. Successfully completed coursework in statics, design classes in steel, concrete, foundations. Coursework in wood and masonry design are preferred
